Bounce-Back Dak? Cowboys QB Prescott 'Guaranteed' Prediction of Big Stats
Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is coming off a season that saw him lead the NFL in interceptions with 15. In just 12 games, Dak couldn't stop gifting the ball to the opposition.
Some were on him, others weren't, but interceptions are a "quarterback stat'' and despite last season being an outlier, many have used last year as a reason to doubt Prescott's ability as a quarterback despite his steady production.
Due to last season's anomaly, many feel the Cowboys, with Dak at the helm, are set to regress ... but Adam Schein of NFL.com "guarantees'' Prescott will improve next season.
"Bang on Prescott at your own risk," Schein writes. "I still love Dak. ... I see the Cowboys quarterback bouncing back in a major way this fall, and not just because of the clean bill of health. Head coach Mike McCarthy is taking the play-calling reins for the first time in his Dallas tenure. I really think Dak and the 'Boys will reap the benefits of this change.
Adds Schein: "I think Dak throws for 4,500 yards and 40 touchdowns while reducing his interception total by at least five. All in all, we've seen a nice body of work from Dak in the NFL. Last season was a blip. It's his time to shine again."
Those are some big numbers. But ... Had Prescott played all 17 regular-season games last year, he would have been on course to throw for over 4,000 yards (again) and over 30 (again) touchdowns. That would constitute a good season.
Admittedly, he 15 interceptions could have been higher had Dak played all regular-season games, but he still showed the level of quarterback play we know he can exhibit.
With head coach McCarthy now the offensive play-caller, along with the addition of Brandin Cooks and Luke Schoonmaker, coupled with a system tailored around Prescott's likes, it's easy to see why some have high expectations for Dallas next season.
Changes are happening for the Cowboys, and to many, those changes will mean a better version of Dak Prescott will be on display season.
