Philadelphia Eagles Have New Fan In WWE Superstar Cody Rhodes
As the Philadelphia Eagles sit atop the NFL with an 8-1 record, they find themselves gathering fans from all over, including in WWE star Cody Rhodes.
"I'm hoping the Eagles have a great season, go to the Super Bowl, finish their story, because they've been my team this year," Rhodes said via PSNWrestling. "I like a lot of NFL teams but the Eagles got me this year."
Rhodes has been a professional wrestler since 2006 when he began in Ohio Valley Wrestling. He spent most of his time under contract with WWE before eventually finding his way to All Elite Wrestling. After a few years with AEW, he went back to WWE where he currently wrestles.
In 2024, WrestleMania 40, the WWE's biggest event of the year, will be held at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on April 6-7. Rhodes is rumored to be featured in the big matchup for the event, a rematch between him and wrestler Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship.
As part of the promotion for the event, Rhodes spent time at the Eagles stadium and said that the way he was treated by members of the franchise was the reason for his new fandom.
"They're the Eagles," Rhodes said. "They're a great franchise. I went to do the media day for WrestleMania 40 at the stadium. This is the prime location for a massive, billion-dollar franchise, and to let me just, 'oh yeah you can walk on the field, oh yeah do your interview over there, we're so excited to have WrestleMania here do whatever you want.' The warmth in which they welcomed me and then on the way out, gave me a full bag of stuff for my daughter, a jersey for me, it got me, hook, line and sinker, got me."
Philadelphia made it all the way to the Super Bowl last season but fell to the Kansas City Chiefs 38-35 on a game-winning field goal. Now, the Eagles hold the best record in the NFL and look poised to make another run at a title.
That run will continue in Week 11 with a rematch of Super Bowl LVII on Monday Night Football. Philadelphia will be heading to Kansas City to play the Chiefs at 8:15 p.m. ET.
