Daniel Jones named NFC Offensive Player of the Week

Though Daniel Jones did not need another reason to silence the critics, he just got one more, as he was named NFC Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Giants 32-31 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Sunday.
In his first career start, Jones completed 23 of 36 passes for 336 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. He also ran for two seven-yard touchdown runs, including the game-winner, while leading the team with 28 yards on four rushing attempts.
Jones had been under scrutiny since head coach Pat Shurmur announced last week that he would be replacing Eli Manning as the starting quarterback.
The rookie responded to that pressure by overcoming an 18-point halftime deficit to give the Giants their first win of the season to improve the team's record to 1-2.
Jones joins running back Saquon Barkley as the second Giants rookie to win the Player of the Week honor in the past two seasons. Barkley also earned the award for his performance against Tampa Bay last season.
Jones is the first Giants rookie quarterback to win in his NFL debut since Scott Brunner on Dec. 7, 1980.
