WFAN Radio Host Implores Giants to Inquire About This Trade
It's a nice fantasy, but it likely has ZERO chance of happening.
The New York Giants need a quarterback, given incumbent Daniel Jones's injury history, right?
Such is the popular opinion, especially considering how deep this year's quarterbacks class is. But with there being split opinions on which quarterback is best for the Giants and if he'll even be there if New York remains sixth in the draft order, WFAN's Evan Roberts tossed out the idea of the Bills, who earlier this week traded away receiver Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans, connecting with old friend Joe Schoen, the Giants general manager, to discuss a potential trade of quarterback Josh Allen to the Giants.
"Joe Schoen, pick up the phone and call your friends in Buffalo because they're having a garage sale," Roberts urged.
While one can appreciate Roberts's desire to see the Giants get the best possible quarterback, as is often the case with these outlandish suggestions, the person making the suggestion not only doesn't take into account the cost involved to make such a blockbuster trade.
Even though Buffalo has had to shed several high-priced contracts this off-season, that doesn't mean that Beane has given up on the Bills' ability to be competitive, not with incoming free agents on cheaper deals and the draft lying ahead to provide a chance to replenish some of the lost depth.
For the Giants to acquire Allen, who had his best seasons with Brian Daboll in his ear as the team's offensive coordinator, the cost would likely be multiple first-round picks to start, something the Giants, who are in the thick of a rebuild, aren't likely to want to surrender.
Moreover, why would Buffalo want to give up on their franchise quarterback, who is only 28 years old and coming off a season in which he led the league in total yards and touchdowns?
They probably won't.
From the Giants' perspective, although Allen's camp numbers wouldn't be cost-prohibitive (they'd also be way less than Daniel Jones's numbers), it remains in the team's best interest to get a rookie quarterback in here on a rookie deal and take advantage of the cost savings to continue building the rest of the roster around him.
