Carolina is 'Not the Situation' for Russell Wilson

Dave Canales is quite happy with Andy Dalton serving as the backup to Bryce Young.

Russell Wilson has not looked the same since he left Seattle for Denver and it's the reason why the Broncos, after just two years, threw in the towel on the experiment with the veteran quarterback.

It will forever go down as one of the worst, if not the worst trade in NFL history with Denver giving up QB Drew Lock, DL Shelby Harris, TE Noah Fant, two first round picks, two second round picks, and a fifth round selection.

Wilson is now a free agent and will continue to be linked to teams like Pittsburgh, Atlanta, New England, and perhaps Minnesota if they part ways with Kirk Cousins. But with all the money Denver owes him, he may consider going somewhere to be a backup. If that's the route he chooses, it won't be in Carolina where his former position coach, Dave Canales, is the head coach.

"This is not the situation for Russ," Canales said on Wednesday's episode of Up & Adams. "But what I will say about him is taking that chance and that opportunity to go to Denver, I really admire him for that. I really admire the courage it took to say I'm going to branch out away from what I'm comfortable with and guys like me who were with him for all ten years. Like I know exactly what he wants, what he needs, what he's going to ask for - I can anticipate those things. He really gambled on himself to go and try to do something a different way to see what that could become. What it's become? Hey, the film's out there, but I really credit him for that."

Andy Dalton is under contract for the 2024 season and will enter his second year serving as the mentor to Bryce Young. Personally, the idea of potentially signing Wilson never popped into my head and I'm sure Canales never thought of it either until he was asked about it during yesterday's interview.
