Miami Dolphins vs. New England Patriots Predictions for NFL Week 2 on Sunday, 9/17

The Dolphins and Patriots are both in different places heading into this matchup. Mike McDaniel and Miami are on their high horse after beating a solid Chargers team, while New England is still looking for their first win here on Sunday Night Football. Tua Tagovailoa and Tyreek Hill did what they do best in Week 1. 

Tua’s stats looked like a college quarterback’s last week, as he had 466 yards passing and three touchdowns through the air. Nearly half of these yards came from Tyreek Hill, who collected 215 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

It’s safe to say this will be a focal point for Bill Belichick all week. It’s not an easy task to slow down the Cheetah, but if anyone can find a way to mess with their rhythm and throw the Dolphins out of sync, it's Belichick. On the other side, we have a Patriots offense that started a bit slow with an early pick-six, but once Mac Jones and the offense settled in, they had a solid showing. Jones threw for a solid 316 yards and three passing touchdowns of his own.

The Patriots also need to get their running game going a bit, as they only rushed for a total of 76 yards with Ezekiel Elliott leading the charge. We expect a bigger game out of Rhamondre Stevenson this week, as he’s the main back, and he’s fully healthy.

Sunday Night Football Injury Reports for Week 2

Our injury report for Week 2 has some important things to take note of that could affect our Dolphins vs. Patriots prediction, so let’s look at the Dolphins first.

Raheem Mostert didn’t practice Wednesday, and Mostert played 49 snaps in Week 1. Miami isn’t very deep at RB, with Jeff Wilson Jr. currently on IR. Mostert’s status for Sunday still isn’t clear, and this would be a big loss for Miami. Jaylen Waddle was also limited on Wednesday at practice, but we expect to see him on the field on Sunday Night.

Now, let’s look at New England’s injuries. The Patriots’ offensive line is the main focal point right now, as most of their starters are injured or dealing with an injury. LT Trent Brown and RG Sidy Sow are both dealing with concussions. On top of these concussions, LG Cole Strange has been limited in practice with a bad knee, along with RG Mike Onwenu who has an ankle injury. 

It’s unclear which offensive linemen will be available Sunday Night, but we do know the Patriots need these linemen badly. Other questionable players for the Patriots include DeVante Parker who missed Week 1, and rookie WR Kayshon Boutte.
