Patriots 'Growing Impatient' With Offense?
The AFC East has the potential to be the strongest division in the NFL this season.
With the New York Jets acquiring four-time MVP winning quarterback Aaron Rodgers, the Buffalo Bills searching for their fourth straight divisional title and the Miami Dolphins possessing an elite cornerback tandem, there very well could be three playoff caliber teams.
So where does that leave the New England Patriots in the mix?
There is no denying the upgrade Bill Belichick's team produced defensively, drafting Oregon cornerback Christian Gonzalez and Georgia Tech edge Keion White in the first two rounds. But it's New England's offense that struggled mightily, with quarterback Mac Jones failing to find any real consistency in his 14 appearances.
With new offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien, the former New England play-caller will be tasked with getting Jones back to his 2021 self this season.
CBS Sports - in its "one thing learned from every team this offseason" - says the the Patriots problem is simple:
"They're growing impatient with the offense.
"Bill Belichick can coach a "D" with his eyes closed," CBS Sports writes. "And after infusing rookies Christian Gonzalez and Keion White, that unit should remain firm. But between Matt Patricia's exit, Bill O'Brien's return, Belichick's rumored discontent with QB Mac Jones and veteran shuffling at WR, where JuJu Smith-Schuster is now onboard, the clock is ticking on offensive results in a post-Tom Brady world."
Entering his third season, Jones looks to replicate his rookie campaign where he received a Pro Bowl nod while leading New England to double-digit wins.
