Patriots Have Strong Odds To Acquire Deshaun Watson if He's Traded
With rumors swirling that star quarterback Deshaun Watson wants to work his way out of Houston, oddsmakers have weighed in on where Watson could end up in the event that he is traded.
Here are the odds, via BetOnline:
- Miami Dolphins: +200
- New England Patriots: +350
- New York Jets: +400
- Chicago Bears: +550
- Indianapolis Colts: +600
- San Francisco 49ers: +1000
- Washington Football Team: +1000
It's worth noting the chances that the Texans decide to trade Watson are very, very slim. As badly as he may not want to be with the organization anymore, giving up a franchise quarterback of Watson's caliber should not be in the cards for Jack Easterby and Nick Caserio.
Rumors swirled last week that Watson wanted to be traded to the Miami Dolphins, with Miami shipping former first-round pick Tua Tagovailoa to Houston. That's why the Dolphins have the best odds at this point.
But it's very interesting to see the Patriots with the second-best odds. The six-time Super Bowl champions are in need of a new starting quarterback. But getting Watson - even if the Texans were willing to trade him - would be a tall task.
To acquire Watson, New England would likely have to give up at least a couple first round picks in addition to more draft picks and/or players in order to get three-time Pro Bowler. Although they would be getting a franchise quarterback in return, the Patriots would be hurting for a draft capital over the next several drafts. That's quite the price to pay.
If they did try to trade for Watson, they better make sure they acquire more offensive firepower via free agency and the draft, otherwise Watson would be just as unhappy as he was in Houston.
