Raiders NFL Draft Prospect: T Mark Evans II, ARK-Pine Bluff
This will be a very busy week for the Las Vegas Raiders, as practices are underway for multiple prospect All-Star games.
One, in particular, is the East-West Shrine Bowl at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
During these all-star games, we’ll be working alongside SI’s Draft Bible to get you the latest information on any potential offensive lineman the Raiders might consider drafting.
“We’re going to continue to find players who fit what we look for, and continue to build this team in our vision, and I think we’re going to, at the same time, our goal is to win football games, and our goal for next year is to make an improvement over where we were this year,” Raiders General Manager Dave Ziegler said.
Tackle Mark Evans II, Arkansas-Pine Bluff
Offensive tackle Mark Evans II is one of two HBCU players invited to this year’s NFL Combine; he was also invited to the East-West Shrine and HBCUs Legacy Bowls and HBCU Combine.
“A self-described finesse lineman who can get dirty when needed, Evans II is one of the more intriguing prospects inside the trenches,” Draft Bible said of Evans II.
The 6-4, 295-pound offensive tackle received his fourth All-SWAC honors this season after starting at left tackle for the Golden Lions, where he allowed only two sacks and three hurries across 732 career pass-blocking snaps.
Evans II has been considered the top HBCU prospect and the first player to be selected from an HBCU school.
“He demonstrates excellent mirror-blocking skills and hand placement in pass protection. In the run game, he puts his footwork to good use as a second-level and pull blocker, creating wide run lanes for the ball carrier. The humble big man is known for his notorious work ethic, toughness, technique and endurance, according to his coaches,” Draft Bible added.
Although having a great set of skills at tackle, his size and mobility might have NFL teams moving him to guard.
Evans II compares himself to tackle Isaiah Wynn of the New England Patriots, a player well-known by Raiders Coach Josh McDaniels.
The former first-round pick was considered to lack the ideal measurables to play tackle, but for most of his NFL career, Wynn has played left tackle.
Evans II will be looking to replicate his college career in the NFL and follow in the footsteps of his comparison. With a coach who has experience with a player of his demeanor, don’t be surprised if the Raiders selected him in the later draft rounds. He performs as a first-rounder next season.
The NFL Draft will occur at Union Station in Kansas City, Mo., from Thursday, April 27 to Saturday, April 29. ESPN, ABC, and NFL Network will broadcast all seven rounds.
The NFL Scouting Combine is Feb. 28-March 6, 2023, at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind. March 7, 2023, before 4 p.m. EST, is the club's deadline to designate Franchise or Transition Players.
