Ravens Trade Idea: Baltimore Lands 49ers QB Trey Lance in Lamar Jackson Swap
When the Baltimore Ravens find themselves on the clock for the first time at pick No. 22 on Thursday there is no telling how the pick will play out. After all they still don't know who will be running their offense next season.
As the contract dispute between the Ravens and Lamar Jackson continues, with neither side looking eager to budge, Baltimore finds itself in a less than ideal situation. However, a blockbuster trade proposal from CBS Sports' Bryant McFadden would remedy that issue for Baltimore.
McFadden's proposal would send Jackson to the San Francisco 49ers in return for Trey Lance, this year's third-round pick (No. 99) and first-rounders in both 2024 and 2025.
This scenario gives the Ravens a quarterback in Lance, which even if he doesn't pan out and they have a down year, they would own two first-round picks next year and in 2025 to get a quarterback they like.
On the other side of the coin in this hypothetical, if Lance did play well in Baltimore then the Ravens would then have plenty of draft capital to build around their new young quarterback.
While this is an interesting hypothetical that could potentially benefit both teams on paper, in reality a move like this isn't entirely feasible. For starters, the Ravens have no intention to trade away their former MVP winning quarterback.
The other rather obvious obstacle for this proposal to overcome is the quarterback situation for the 49ers. Even if they do move off Lance just two years after drafting him, they've made it clear that Brock Purdy is their guy when he returns from injury.
Jackson may very well end up on a new team before the start of next season if a contract can't get done. However, as alluring as the idea may sound, it is likely a long shot that his new team will be the 49ers.
