Saints Fans Hoping for "TNT" (Teddy & Taysom) to EXPLODE vs. Seahawks

Much has been made this week about the New Orleans Saints and their current situation surrounding the quarterback position, following the untimely loss of starting 19th year veteran QB and future NFL Hall of Famer Drew Brees to a torn thumb ligament in his right throwing hand that required surgery this past Wednesday afternoon.

To that point. many Saints fans at the current moment are "split right down the middle" as to whether which one of the team's two back-up QB's, #2 QB Teddy Bridgewater and #3 QB Taysom Hill; is the best-suited player to run the offense in Brees' absence.

However, the likelihood is that being the reputable offensive "guru" that he is, Saints head coach Sean Payton will figure out a way to use BOTH men's respective talents; and allow their uniquely-different skill-sets to actually complement each other. And that's not just for tomorrow's contest at Seattle's CenturyLink Field, but possibly for the duration of time that Brees remains out of the line-up.

In that sense, there are a large amount of Who Dat fans that are hoping for "TNT" — Teddy and Taysom — to virtually EXPLODE tomorrow in the critically-important game vs. the Seahawks.

Seahawks defensive coordinator Ken Norton, Jr. is expected to implement a defensive game plan that will create and generate a ton of pressure on Bridgewater, who despite the trepidation among some Saints fans, will start tomorrow's critically-important contest under center.

But in order for New Orleans to escape Seattle with a victory, they''ll first have to counter Seattle's defensive game plan with the types of plays that are meant to keep defenses honest.

That's the exact reason why Who Dat fans shouldn't at all be surprised if they happen to see a dramatic increase in "gadget plays" such as screens, end-arounds, sweeps, and possibly a "trick play" or two such as a flea flicker.

And while there isn't any question whatsoever that starting #1 RB Alvin Kamara is a lethal and extremely dangerous "X-Factor" with his noted capability to catch passes out in space, the reality is that the creative Payton very well might be inspired to dial up a variety of those same kind of play-calls for the athletically-gifted Hill as well.

Undoubtedly. that's one main reason why Taysom could be utilized heavily in those exact type of plays; all of which are designed to keep the opponent's defense off-balance and in a constant state of trying to figure out or guess what will come next.

Let's not forget: since Hill can throw as well that he also can at running and catching the ball, it gives the offense an extra-added dimension that opponents must be prepared for. 

In fact, according to the very good folks over at NFL Next Gen Stats, New Orleans has had more offensive snaps with two quarterbacks on the field simultaneously in the past two NFL seasons (209). than the ENTIRE other 31 NFL teams combined (96).

And when you think back to how often Payton has used the versatile Hill during previous times when Brees has been healthy and in the starting line-up, chances are pretty damn good that Hill could see a major amount of touches in both the running and passing game not only tomorrow against the Seahawks, but also going forward for the next several weeks.

"These guys have been here now for two seasons. It's just taking a step back and looking at what we want to do with those two guys in the game," Payton said.

That's a sentiment shared by Payton's counter-part on the opposite side of the field tomorrow, in long-time Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll.

"We’re preparing for everything. We have to,” Carroll said during a conference call with the local New Orleans media on Wednesday afternoon. “It’s a little like (preparing for) the first game of the year,” Carroll added.

Carroll's comments are indicative of the fact that Seattle and the rest of the opposing defenses in the coming weeks that the Saints will face while Brees remains out of the starting line-up. don't have all that much information or game film at their disposal just yet. to study in order to formulate a solid game-plan.

“It’s going to be tough for us,” said Norton Jr. in the same press conference with the media. “At the same time, we’re more impressed with what we’re doing and getting ourselves ready to play. We can’t really worry about what they’re doing because they have their own situation and we have our situation, which is important for us. It’s always been our theme to put us first.”

Make no mistake about this much: both Carroll and Norton are more than well-aware of Payton's propensity to dig deep within his "bag of tricks". and to do everything within his power to keep the Seahawks defense in a constant state of confusion tomorrow evening.

That in and of itself has many Who Dats excited about tomorrow's game, in spite of the fact that Brees will not be under center.

It's why the overwhelming majority of Saints fans are hoping for "TNT" to EXPLODE tomorrow evening in Seattle against the Seahawks — and bring home a much-needed win at a critical time, for the boys in Black and Gold.....
