Houston Texans' DeMeco Ryans Focuses on 'Coaching Piece' of NFL Trade Deadline
The trade deadline in the NFL is slated for Oct. 31 at 3 p.m. CT, and while the Houston Texans may not be big movers on Tuesday, head coach DeMeco Ryans is focused on whatever his role may be in the process.
Ryans does not have the final say in roster moves, but he does have input and the ability to coach whoever ends up on his team. So, should the Texans make a move, Ryans will be focusing on what he can control in that process.
“When it comes to the trade deadline, [general manager] Nick and his scouting staff have done a really good job of looking at guys all throughout the year,” Ryans told reporters Oct. 30. “So, they handle that, we handle the coaching piece of it. If there are opportunities to make our team better, we always look at all opportunities.”

The Texans are a young football team that dropped their fourth game of the year on Sunday, falling to the then-winless Carolina Panthers. The trade deadline is a great opportunity to bolster a roster, but perhaps Houston's greatest area for improvement is pure game experience.
Quarterback C.J. Stroud has only made seven starts in the NFL, and while he has impressed, he and the young pieces around him may need time to gel before the Texans are real "buyers" at the deadline.
So, maybe it's all a moot point, but Ryans is prepared for whatever comes down the pipe.
For now, however, he is focused on getting his team ready for the next game, one that will come on Sunday at home against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Kickoff is slated for 12 p.m. CT on CBS.
