Now That Sports Are Back, Would You Play?
It was the highly anticipated moment of 2020 everyone was waiting for... the return of sports. Now that they are back, the question remains, is it safe?
The leagues say yes, and we’re seeing most pro athletes returning to compete but Sports Illustrated asked doctors around the country this question: If your full income came from playing in one of the four major U.S. men’s professional sports leagues, how likely would you be to play?
We’ve seen success with the bubble's set up by the NHL and NBA, but when it comes to Major League Baseball, 14 teams postponed 39 games.
Then there is the NFL which has yet to begin, but the majority of doctors said they would not play under the current protocols. It’s not a socially distanced sport by a long shot, and although the league's plan is well-intentioned it struck many doctors as incomplete.
Sports Illustrated host Kaitlin O'Toole is joined by SI’s writer Stephanie Apstein for more on this.
