The Miami Dolphins have signed offensive lineman Danny Watkins to a one-year deal, reports NFL.com's Ian Rapoport.

Watkins was the No. 23 pick in the 2011 NFL draft, but the Eagles released him Saturday after only two seasons. The guard played in 23 games for Philadelphia, including 18 starts. He failed to find a spot in Chip Kelly's first season as Eagles coach.

But Watkins will have another chance to make it in the NFL with the Dolphins. He drew attention before the 2011 draft because of his back story: Watkins was a former firefighter who played two seasons at Baylor before being drafted at 26 years old.
