It Happened at All-Star Café
In 1995 a glorified sports bar called All-Star Café opened in New York City in the heart of Times Square. Backed by big-name investors including Wayne Gretzky, Tiger Woods, Shaquille O'Neal, Andrei Agassi, Monica Seles and Joe Montana, the restaurant was lined with expensive sports memorabilia and even had a Goodyear blimp floating inside the building. But as senior writer Jon Wertheim explains, this "sports bar on steroids" had problems, including the security of one of the most valuable baseball cards in the world.
