The Rolex 24 at Daytona was first run in 1966 and has been run annually since 1978 as a 24-hour endurance race that is now the opening event on the IMSA Weathertech Championship schedule. The race is also part of the Michelin Endurance Cup, featuring 58 hours of racing over five events. The defending champions have scattered to other teams after the Meyer Shank Racing team was penalized six weeks after the race for manipulating tire pressure data during the event. Tom Blomqvist is now racing with Pipo Derani and Jack Aitken for Whelen Cadillac Racing, Colin Braun has moved to the LMP2 division with Crowstrike Racing by APR while Hélio Castroneves has returned to the IndyCar Series full-time and Simon Paginaud is without a ride.
