The inaugural Showcase at Cedar Crest tees off the second round in Dallas, Texas today.

Heading into the second round of the inaugural Showcase at Cedar Crest in Dallas, Texas, the leaderboards are very competitive. Local Texan Christian Rodriguez holds a one-stroke lead over the field in the men’s tournament at six under par. That field features 11 of the 21 golfers in the tournament finishing under par for the round and in a position to contend here today in the second round. Marley Franklin leads the way in the women’s tournament at four under par, one stroke ahead of the field. She is in a better position to take a commanding lead today with only two other golfers under par and one more at even par entering the second round.

Both fields in the Showcase at Cedar Crest feature 21 of the best African-American amateur golfers in college today. This event is designed to give a spotlight to the game and these players where otherwise they may not receive one.

Just behind Franklin in the women’s tournament are Kendall Jackson at three under par, Allyn Stephens at one under par and Amber Pennington at even par. The other 17 golfers are between one over par and 16 over par entering the second round.

For Rodriguez in the men’s tournament, it will not be as easy to maintain the lead today. He has Kristopher Stiles just behind him at five under par, Joshua Siplin at four under par and three players tied at three under par. There is also a group of five golfers tied at two under par, just four strokes off the lead setting the stage for a very intense round of golf today.
