The Seawolves come into Saturday's game with an overall record of 3-4 and a conference record of 1-0 so far. The team's most recent game was played against Providence and resulted in a tough 13-12 overtime loss. The tying goal went in for Providence with just nine minutes to play as the Friars scored the final four goals of the game to erase Stony Brook's lead. Nick Dupuis and Dylan Pallonetti each scored four goals in the loss while Dupuis added five assists for a nine-point game. Tommy Wilk played between the pipes and made 19 saves in the loss.

The Tar Heels bring a three-game win streak into Saturday's game and they are currently 5-2 overall this season. On Tuesday, the team continued its New York road trip with a game against Wagner which resulted in a big 18-4 victory. Owen Duffy finished the game with five goals and one assist to lead the Tar Heels' offense while Dominic Pietramala added four goals and one assist. Collin Krieg and Kent Goode shared responsibilities in the net and combined to make five saves. All four goals were scored on Krieg. 

The last time Stony Brook and North Carolina met dates back to 2003 and resulted in a 13-7 win for UNC to move to 6-0 in the all-time series between the teams.
