On Wednesday night, the final spot in the ACC tournament final will be claimed by either ninth-seeded Louisville or fourth-seeded Clemson as the teams square off in the second semifinal. The Cardinals improved to 11-4-3 overall with a narrow 4-3 victory over second-seeded Notre Dame in the quarterfinals to advance in the tournament. Sander Roed netted his third goal of the year to open the scoring in the first half and give Louisville a 1-0 lead heading into the locker room. Roed went on to score two more goals in the second half to earn a hat trick and increase the team's lead. The Fighting Irish scored the next three goals with the equalizer coming in the 88th minute of play. Josh Jones emerged the hero for Louisville, scoring the game-winner just one minute later to eliminate Notre Dame.

The Tigers advanced to the semifinal round after beating fifth-seeded Duke in penalties after a 3-3 draw to bring the team's overall record to 9-3-4 on the year. Tyler Trimnal scored the first goal of the game to give Clemson a 1-0 lead, but Duke countered in the 36th minute to tie things up. Duke scored eight minutes into the second half to take a 2-1 lead, but Trimnal scored again in the 76th minute to even the score, sending the game into overtime. Alex Meinhard gave the Tigers the lead just three minutes into overtime, but Duke evened the score once again four minutes later. With no one else scoring in overtime, the game went to penalties where Joseph Andema came up with a crucial save on Duke's second PK to give his team an advantage. Duke missed its third shot, essentially sealing the deal for Clemson.
When Louisville and Clemson met in regular season play, Clemson won handily in a 4-0 victory.
