The Orange had an easy first-round game in the ACC tournament, beating NC State 5-0 before moving on to third-seeded Virginia in the quarterfinals. The game against the Cavaliers was played to a 1-1 draw through double-overtime. Syracuse advanced after winning in PKs by a score of 4-3. Virginia scored first with a goal shortly into the second half, but Mateo Leveque evened the score in the final ten minutes of regulation play to keep the team's chances alive. The Orange missed its first attempt in PKs which led to a 2-1 Virginia advantage, but the Cavaliers opened the door for the Orange by missing two of its final three attempts. Syracuse capitalized on its opportunity and won the game.
When Syracuse and UNC met during regular season play, Syracuse earned a 1-0 victory so Wednesday's game is sure to entertain with a hard-fought battle.
