Providence outshot Xavier 19 to seven, but the only shot that ended up mattering was Taylor Rhinehart's goal in the 47th minute of play. Rhinehart finished the game with three shots on net to lead the Musketeers' offense while Jonny Mennell anchored Xavier's defense by making four saves between the posts to keep the net clear and earn the team's eighth shutout of the season.

The Hoyas have had a strong season and come into the championship game with a record of 13-2-2. The team is on a four-game win streak with the most recent coming against fifth-seeded UConn in a 2-0 victory during the semifinal round. Georgetown and UConn played a scoreless first half, but Marlon Tabora netted his fourth goal of the season in the 70th minute of play to give the Hoyas a 1-0 lead. Shortly before time expired in the match, Max Viera scored his first goal of the season to give his team a bit of insurance before time ran out. Ryan Schewe saw five shots in the match, but did not have to make any saves as the Hoyas earned a spot in the final with their seventh shutout of the campaign.
