The U.S Championships are underway in Columbus, Ohio and on Thursday afternoon, the Pairs Short Program will take place as the field looks to get off to a strong start in with the hopes of finishing on the podium after the event on Sunday. Pairs is consistently the hardest event to predict as the possibility of mistakes doubles. Reigning champions Alexa Knierim and Brandon Frazier are not in the field and haven’t competed all season after saying throughout the 2022-23 season that it would likely be their last which opens the door for a new pair to be crowned the U.S. champions.

Emily Chan and Spencer Howe will be among those competing for the top of the podium after finishing with a silver at last year's nationals and fifth at worlds. The pair will make their 2023-2024 season debut at the U.S. Championships after Howe spent the fall rehabbing from shoulder surgery. plan to make their 2023-24 season debut this week.
Nica Digerness and Mark Sadusky will also be a pair to watch. Digerness and Sadusky finished fifth at the 2024 U.S. Pairs Finals and eighth at the 2023 U.S. Championships. Alisa Efimova and Misha Mitrofanov will be looking to take the top spot at this competition after finishing second at the U.S Pairs Finals.
