The 2024 Formula 1 season opened last weekend in Bahrain the same way the 2023 campaign ended, with Red Bull Racing sweeping the top two positions in the race. Three-time defending world champion Max Verstappen cruised to a 22.457-second victory over teammate Sergio Pérez, with the Ferrari duo of Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc running third and fourth. Pérez topped the podium last year at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit, a 3.836-mile temporary street circuit located on the Corniche, a coastal resort area of Jeddah along the Red Sea. The course features 27 turns and Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes set the track race record in its inaugural running in 2021 of 1:30.734.

Last week, Verstappen picked up the full 26 points for a race win and fastest lap to take an early eight-point lead in the standings over Pérez. Sainz is third with 15 points, Leclerc earned 12 points and Mercedes' George Russell finished fifth and has 10 points.
The Jeddah Corniche Circuit is very fast, with speeds averaging around 155 mph, second on the F1 calendar only to Italy's Monza course which is known as "The Temple of Speed." It is the fastest street course ever seen in F1 despite having the most turns on the schedule. Many are quick bends as drivers wind their way around the waterfront.
