Clark is in solo third after a third-round 71. Will Zalatoris, Russell Henley and Hideki Matsuyama are tied for fourth at seven-under for the tournament, with Harris English — who had the other 68 on Saturday — in solo seventh. Sam Burns and Max Homa are in the tie for eighth with McIlroy, who on Saturday became the first player to drive the green at the par-four 10th hole.
Zalatoris felt the wrath of Bay Hill late in his round. He had a five-shot lead at one point and was five-under for the round through 13 before double bogeys on the 15th and 18th allowed the field to close the gap.
Scheffler won this event in 2022 and the signature event has a dream leaderboard for the final round. Eight players are within four shots of the lead, three of whom have major championship victories on their resume. At stake, the $4 million winner's share of the $20 million purse and 700 FedExCup points.
