Defending champ Aledo takes a 29-game winning streak into Friday night's Texas 5A Division I championship game against Spring Branch Smithson Valley

Aledo (15-0) is in another state championship game after a semifinal victory in the Texas 5A Division I playoffs on Dec. 8. It is the 12th title game appearance for the Bearcats since 2009 and their 14th overall as the program looks for its 12th state championship, including its second in a row. On Friday night, they take on Spring Branch Smithson Valley (14-1), which has taken 14 straight games since an opening-week loss. It is the Rangers' first trip to AT&T Stadium in Arlington as their last title game appearance came in 2004 at old Texas Stadium in Irving. Smithson Valley is looking for its first Texas championship after losing four straight title games from 2001-04.

Aledo led 22-7 at the half in its 43-7 semifinal victory over Forney at the Midlothian Sports Complex. Hawk Patrick-Daniels ran for 185 yards and two touchdowns, Hauss Hejny added 125 yards on the ground and Davhon Keys punched in four TD runs for the Bearcats. 

The Rangers built a 49-0 lead over Brownsville Veterans Memorial at Buccaneer Stadium in Corpus Christi before both teams pulled the starters and Smithson Valley cruised to a 49-21 victory. Brad Sowersby ran for a pair of scores in the first quarter while Daniel DeHoyos got into the end zone twice in the second period. 

Individual season statistics are not available for Smithson Valley. For Aledo, Hejny has thrown for 2,571 yards and 25 touchdowns while also scoring 12 on the ground, gaining 964 yards. Raycine Guillory Jr. has 1,236 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns, Keys has scored 15 times on just 35 carries and Patrick-Daniels has 12 TD runs. Trace Clarkson is the top receiving target with 46 catches for 887 yards and seven scores.
