Dallas South Oak Cliff (13-2) bounced back from a 1-2 start to win 12 straight games to earn a shot at its third consecutive Texas 5A Division II state championship. On Saturday morning, the Bears face Port Neches-Groves (14-1) in a rematch of the 2022 championship game. The Indians have won 14 consecutive games since losing their opener back on Aug. 25. Port Neches-Groves has won three state titles, but none since claiming the 6A crown back in 1975. South Oak Cliff won last year's title game 34-24 in its first-ever championship game appearance. The Indians are 3-4 in state championship games, with wins in 1953, 1955 and 1975 and losses in 1954, 1977, 1999 and last season.

Port Neches-Groves opened a 35-14 lead late in the third quarter and held on for a 42-35 semifinal victory over Liberty Hill on Dec. 8 at the Cy-Fair FCU Stadium in Cypress. Connor Bailey threw three touchdown passes, two to London Nunley, while Blair Chatagnier and Isaiah Nguyen each ran for more than 100 yards. Chatagnier scored two touchdowns and Nguyen got into the end zone once.
After playing McKinney Emerson to a 10-10 draw in the first half, the Bears scored on its first possession out of the locker room and went on to a 36-24 victory at the Fort Center at the Star in Frisco. William Little completed only five passes, but two were for touchdowns, while Danny Green ran for 162 yards and two scores on just 11 carries. Jayden Shelton had a 23-yard interception return for a touchdown as well.
Nguyen has 1,940 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns while Chatagnier put up 1,180 yards and 17 scores for the Indians. Bailey has thrown for 19 touchdowns with only two interceptions, while Nunley has 41 catches for 714 yards and 11 TDs. South Oak Cliff has a pair of 1,000-yard rushers in Khalil Ewell and Green, who have combined for 33 touchdowns. Little and Carter Kopecky have thrown for a combined 2,215 yards and 31 scores.
