On Friday afternoon, the MLB is bringing its newest promotional game to spring training to give fans a glimpse at what the future of baseball looks like in the United States. Titled 'Spring Breakout,' the game will feature prospects from the Seattle Mariners' franchise as the players take on the prospects from the San Diego Padres' organization in Arizona. Cole Young and Harry Ford are the Mariners' top two prospects, ranking at No. 37 and No. 38, respectively. Young was a first-round pick of the Mariners in the 2022 draft out of the high school ranks and hit .277 last season across multiple A-Ball levels. He had 11 homers, 62 RBI and smacked 34 doubles. Ford is a similar story for Seattle, taken out of the high school ranks in the 2021 draft. He starred for team Great Britain in the 2023 World Baseball Classic and hit .257 for High-A Everett with 15 homers and 67 RBI after that.

The Padres have five prospects playing in the game on Friday with the highest ranked being Ethan Salas at No. 3. Salas signed last January when he was 16, and was catching Joe Musgrove in a simulated game in spring training in March. He debuted in Low A on May 30, just two days before he turned 17. Jackson Merrill is sitting at No. 23 and worked his way up to Double A before his 21st birthday. Dylan Lesko is the last player for the Padres to be in the top 50 at No. 35. He underwent Tommy John surgery in 2022, but has rehabbed well and is coming into 2024 just as strong as he was before the surgery, if not stronger.
