
WWE Monday Night Raw Results: First Round of King and Queen of the Ring 2024

WWE is getting right down to business one night after a successful WWE Backlash 2024 PLE.
The stars of Monday Night Raw return to the United States after a trip to Lyon, France. The red brand emanates from the XL Center in Hartford, CT tonight. The opening round of the King and Queen of the Ring 2024 begins this evening.
While all of the round one matches had been made official, there is one major change after it was announced that Drew McIntyre isn't medically cleared to wrestle Finn Balor tonight and has been yanked from the King of the Ring 2024 tournament.

WWE Raw Results Featuring King and Queen of the Ring 2024 Opening Round
Balor's new opponent hasn't been revealed at this time. Of course, we will keep you posted right here in this article once those details become available. The other three King of the Ring opening round matches are GUNTHER vs. Sheamus, Ricochet vs. Ilja Dragunov, and Rey Mysterio vs. Kofi Kingston.
As for the Queen of the Ring 2024 matches, we will see former WWE Women's Champion IYO SKY take on Natalya. Lyra Valkyria will make her Monday Night Raw debut as a full-time roster member against Asuka. Shayna Baszler meets former Queen of the Ring Zelina Vega, and Zoey Stark takes on Ivy Nile.

WWE Raw Results (May 6, 2024)
Following a video recap of Backlash, The Judgment Day made their way out. Damian Priest spoke on the issues he had with The Judgment Day after Backlash. Balor said when he and JD McDonagh apologized for interfering they meant it. Priest delivered an apology of his own for getting in the faces of JD and Finn after his win over Jey Uso.
The Judgment Day members all hugged in the ring.
Balor claimed he gets a first-round bye now that Drew McIntyre is medically uncleared. Adam Pearce made his way out and said that Balor will not get a bye week. He said Finn's new opponent is Jey Uso.
Jey Uso vs. Finn Balor - King of the Ring Opening Round Match
Finn had an early advantage, but Jey hit an uppercut. The two rolled on the mat before Balor hit a basement dropkick. Jey dumped Balor to the outside and hit a suicide dive.
Balor sent Uso into the ring post and over the announce table. Finn climbed up the announce table to mock Jey's "Yeet" taunt before the commercial break.
Jey hit his signature punch combination before being sent to the ring apron. Jey kicked a charging Balor and went up the top turnbuckle to land a crossbody for a near fall.
Balor avoided the Uso Splash and dropkicked Jey to the corner. He then went for Coup de Grace, but Jey rolled out of the way and hit a Spear for the two-count.
McIntyre made his way out from the crowd and Finn almost got a pin off the distraction. Jey was able to hit a second Spear for the three.
Winner: Jey Uso
Becky Lynch was shown arriving inside the XL Center, and Pat McAfee revealed she will be having an interview with Michael Cole tonight.
A look back at the instant classic between GUNTHER and Sheamus at Clash at the Castle 2022 aired.
McIntyre was complaining to Pearce about Jey replacing him in the King of the Ring 2024. Drew told Pearce, "screw you" before driving off. That's when CM Punk entered just seconds later in a yellow car. Punk asked for his music to play and he is on his way out to share some words for the WWE Universe.
Punk said he planned to fight McIntyre before "The Scottish Warrior" drove off. Punk then said he wants to stay long enough for McIntyre to return to the building. Punk admitted he was heartbroken after McIntyre injured him at the Royal Rumble earlier this year.
He said he realized all McIntyre did was delay his WrestleMania dream. He called himself a five-tool player, while McIntyre is just a tool. He wondered if Drew hates him or himself. He warned McIntyre that the next time he sees him he'll break his face and then his heart. Punk said McIntyre fears him and warned him that he isn't' afraid to confront him in Glasgow this June.
Cathy Kelley interviewed Ricochet, who said he's aware of who Ilja Dragunov is. Braun Strowman greeted his old partner Ricochet and gave him words of wisdom ahead of his King of the Ring match.
IYO SKY (w/Damage CTRL) vs. Natalya - Queen of the Ring Opening Round Match
Natalya used her ground skills early on, rolling into a leglock. She then went for a Sharpshooter, but IYO fought her off. From the ring apron, IYO went for a moonsault, but Natalya moved out of the way.
IYO connected with a springboard missile dropkick before another ad break.
Natalya landed a superplex, but SKY got her shoulder up. IYO locked in a submission, but Natalya powered out. SKY landed a roll through stomp. IYO went for a roll through pin, but Natalya planted her with a sitdown powerbomb for a close two-count.
Dakota distracted the ref enough for IYO to counter the Sharpshooter by sending the back of Natalya's head to the turnbuckle. SKY hit a running knee followed by a Moonsault for the victory.
Winner: IYO SKY
After the match, Dakota Kai got on the mic and said she will replace an injured Asuka to take on Lyra Valkyria in the Queen of the Ring opening round. She warned Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair that Damage CTRL wants the WWE Women's Tag Team Championship back. She also warned Women's World Champion Becky Lynch.

Ricochet vs. Ilja Dragunov - King of the Ring Opening Round
Ricochet ate a hard chop early. He responded to a step-up enzuigiri with a running knee before the commercial break.
Ricochet springboard clothesline following by a standing Shooting Star Press for a near fall. Dragunov landed a kick followed by two German suplexes. Ricochet hit a springboard kick, sending Ilja to the outside.
Ricochet went for a moonsault to the outside, but Dragunov moved out of the way and hit a German Suplex on the outside. Dragunov then landed a springboard missile dropkick.
Dragunov went up the top rope, but Ricochet cut him off. With both men on the top turnbuckle, Ricochet hit a hurricanrana followed by two suicide dives and a corkscrew plancha before another commercial break.
Dragunov hit the Constantine Special for a two-count. He then hit a top rope senton for a near fall. Ricochet and Dragunov exchanged kicks before the former hit a roll through steamroller and a springboard moonsault.
Dragunov hit a running knee, but he missed a backfist and Ricochet hit a reverse hurricanrana. He then went for another springboard mooonsault, but Ilja chopped him midair. Dragunov landed the H-Bomb, but when he went for Torpedo Moscow, Ricochet countered with Recoil.
Dragunov hit a second H-Bomb for the win.
Winner: Ilja Dragunov
After the match, the two shook hands.
Sheamus was interviewed by Jackie Redmond. He said GUNTHER gets under his skin more than anyone else in the industry. He vowed to take down "The Ring General" tonight and eventually win the King of the Ring.
Zoey Stark vs. Ivy Nile - Queen of the Ring Opening Round
Nile caught Stark in a rear-naked choke, but Stark rolled through for a two-count. Nile landed a stalling vertical suplex. Zoey landed a springboard missile dropkick.
Stark was looking for a German suplex off the top turnbuckle. Ivy countered with a bulldog from the top rope, with Zoey on the middle rope. Stark connected with a hard slap to Ivy and she countered a superplex attempt. Stark hit Z360 for the win.
Winner: Zoey Stark
R-Truth was backstage with Adam Pearce. He suggested a tag team title match against UConn, yes, UConn. He called the NCAA an independent wrestling promotion.
Bron Breakker then asked Pearce why he's not in the King of the Ring. Pearce told Bron to join him in his office for the explanation.
A recap of the 2022 SmackDown rematch between GUNTHER and Sheamus aired.
Finn Balor apologized to Priest and JD. Preiest said Balor is still the "Prince." Dominik brought Carlito in and Damian said there's no friendship for him here. Carlito said he needs help and The Judgment Day appears to need assistance as well.
Chad Gable vs. Bronson Reed
The two exchanged chops early. Reed lifted him up for a Death Valley Driver. Gable hit a German suplex and then went up the top rope, but missed a headbutt. Reed then landed a senton splash.
Reed went high risk, but Gable cut him off and hit an exploder suplex. Sami Zayn interfered, attacking Gable and then Reed. Gable hit a German suplex on Sami, but Zayn caught him in an exploder suplex in the corner.
Sami went for the Helluva kick, but Reed slammed him and Gable to the mat.
Chad Gable vs. Bronson Reed ended in no contest
The camera followed Reed to the back. Pearce confronted him, and Reed said all he cares about is the Intercontinental Championship. Reed said if the Raw GM wants control he knows what to do.

CM PUNK DROPS POTENTIAL MAJOR WWE MONDAY NIGHT RAW SPOILER ON SOCIAL MEDIA
GUNTHER was backstage and he said he isn't interested in bangers, he's focused on being the best. He vowed to be the King of the Ring.
Michael Cole was in the ring for an interview with Becky Lynch. Becky said she sense a new crop of talent creeping up on the Monday Night Raw brand. She says she welcomes the challenges in store for her.
Cole brought up the history between Becky and Lyra Valkyria. Lynch recalled her NXT matches with Lyra.
Becky was interrupted by Liv Morgan. Liv listed her accomplishments and bragged about injuring Rhea Ripley. She claims she can't get an ounce of respect from Becky. Lynch said Liv will get her title opportunity at the Kign and Queen of the Ring 2024.
Becky said for all of Liv's accolades, she hasn't been able to bear her. Liv said she has purpose now, and that's taking everything for Rhea Ripley, and Becky is in her way.
Damage CTRL made their way back out. Dakota said Liv has done nothing to get a Women's World Championship match. They surrounded the ring and Liv escaped instead of fighting. It was now 3 on 1 when Lyra made the save.
Jackie Redmond interviewed Sami Zayn, and the IC champion said this should've been over weeks ago with Gable, and now he's battling Bronson Reed. He suggested a triple threat match at King and Queen of the Ring in Saudi Arabia.
Dakota Kai vs. Lyra Valkyria - Queen of the Ring Opening Round Match
Lyra slid under a kick to land one of her own. Lyra went to the middle rope, but was pulled down. The back of her head hit the turnbuckle. Dakota then kicked her opponent in the head before the commercial break.
Lyra hit a fisherman buster suplex, but eventually ate a big boot in the corner. Valkyria was able to get her shoulder up.
Valkyria hit the Nightwing for the three-count.
Winner: Lyra Valkyria
Kofi Kingston said this year's King of the Ring was supposed to be Xavier Woods' repeat year. Kofi said while he respects Rey Mysterio, he has to put him down like he's Kendrick Lamar or Drake.
GUNTHER vs. Sheamus - King of the Ring Opening Round Match
The two exchanged chops early. GUNTHER went for his own version of 10 beats of the Bodhran. Sheamus landed a knee from the apron onto GUNTHER before an ad break.
GUNTHER chopped Sheamus right on the back of the neck. "The Ring General" had a headlock in, but ate more stiff chops in the corner.
Sheamus hit the Irish Curse followed by White Noise for a near fall. Gunther went for a lariat, but Sheamus countered with a tilt-a-whirl slam. Sheamus connected with
10 beats of the Bodhran, but it was actually 17 beats.
The Irishman went for the Brogue Kick, but GUNTHER countered with a German suplex attempt. Sheamus got his leg caught on the ropes and Kaiser hit a dropkick on the knee, but the referee kicked Ludwig out of the match.
GUNTHER had a leglock on his opponent, but Sheamus kicked his way out of the hold. GUNTHER ripped the kneepad of Sheamus off and continued to work that area. Sheamus tried lifting up GUNTHER, but his knee gave out.
Sheamus ended up hitting a clothesline and went for Celtic Cross, but he hit a knee to the jaw for a two-count. Sheamus went for the Brogue Kick, but his knee once again failed him, and GUNTHER hit a Powerbomb. The former IC champion went up the top rope, but Sheamus returned to his feet and hit Celtic Cross for a near fall.
GUNTHER landed a German suplex, but he powered up and hit a knee. Sheamus then hit a Brogue Kick, but he couldn't get all of it and he was slow to covering his opponent due to the injured knee.
GUNTHER forced Sheamus to tap out with the leglock.
Winner: GUNTHER
