ESPN FPI Projects Outcome For Mississippi State Vs. LSU
Mississippi State football (2-0) comes into Week 3 of the 2023 college football season with a perfect record after winning its Week 1 contest, 48-7 over the Southeastern Louisiana Lions and then securing a 34-21 overtime win against the Arizona Wildcats.
Next up, head coach Zach Arnett and his Bulldogs will take on the No. 14-ranked LSU Tigers (1-1).
The Bayou Bengals got off on the wrong foot in the opener, taken down 45-24 by a Florida State Seminoles team that's been underrated but is backing up the hype.
LSU is in a bit more of a rhythm now though, after coming out with a 72-10 victory over Grambling State in Week 2.
ESPN's Football Power Index (FPI) predicts the outcome of each matchup in every week of the college football season and currently has the Tigers favored to defeat the Bulldogs, giving them a 67.5% shot at victory.
Given the way the Bulldogs are still trying to find consistency in the midst of a new era with a coaching staff and a roster that looks much different than last season, it's simple to see why the Tigers would be given the upper hand here, but there's also a sense of shakiness within the LSU team against higher-level competition.
The Bulldogs have some real upset potential here and the chance to make a big statement as both teams kick off at 11 a.m. CT on Saturday in Davis Wade Stadium.
