South Carolina Shutout by Texas A&M, Knocked Out of SEC Tournament

South Carolina's Baseball team has been knocked out of the SEC Tournament, after being shut out by Texas A&M 5-0.

At one point in the season, we thought the Gamecocks might be contenders to win the SEC, but the team has been bounced from the tournament after suffering their second loss to Texas A&M. The Gamecocks were shutout Thursday afternoon 5-0, ending their short run in the SEC Tournament.

Thursday was not the day for the Gamecocks' bats, with South Carolina recording just one hit, a single up the middle from Will Tippett, through nine innings. The only real offensive opportunity for the Gamecocks came in the eighth inning when they found themselves with bases loaded. Braylen Wimmer, Ethan Petry, and Talmadge LeCroy all walked consecutively with two outs, but a strikeout ended the inning and dashed away the Gamecocks' only real scoring opportunity.

On the mound for South Carolina was Jack Mahoney, who ran out of gas after four innings due to playing on four and a half days of rest, giving up four runs. Like the past month, most things were not working in the team's favor. Though they have been knocked out of the SEC tournament, the team's season is not over. The Gamecocks have limited time to get things back on track with the NCAA Tournament looming.

It's hard to be optimistic after the past month, but the Gamecocks have plenty of time to turn things around. The entire bracket for the NCAA regionals will be announced Sunday night. With the recent performances from the Gamecocks being underwhelming over the past month, the odds of Columbia being a host for the regionals have dropped drastically. However, the team still has a fighting chance due to their RPI and overall strength of schedule accumulated during the regular season.
