AFC Asian Cup 2024 Soccer Predictions, Picks & Best Bets, 1/19

We’re in the second Matchday of the AFC Asian Cup, and the host nation Qatar looks to cruise into the knockout stages after winning their opening two games with a goal differential of +4. Similarly, Australia sits atop Group B with six points through two games after outsourcing their opponents 3-0 combined. Today, the AFC Asian Cup favorites, Japan, will take on Iraq, and I have a few Asian Cup soccer predictions you can use.

Japan undoubtedly stands out as the top-performing team in Asia, evident from their recent track record. The Samurai Blue have clinched victory in their last 11 matches, including an impressive 4-1 win against Germany in Wolfsburg and a 4-2 opening victory against Vietnam. Throughout this streak, they've netted an impressive 49 goals while conceding a mere seven. Now, they’ll go up against an Iraqi squad that is unbeaten in its last 11 competitive games, posting an 8-0-3 record.

Japan trailed Vietnam 2-1 in their opening game, but their offensive firepower proved to be too much, as they scored twice right before halftime to lead 3-2 at the break. They ended up winning the game 4-2 and now sit atop Group D after one game. It was slightly concerning to see Japan concede twice against Vietnam, and I think Iraq can capitalize after scoring three goals against Indonesia in their opening match. Therefore, the first of my Asian Cup soccer predictions is on Iraq Over 0.5 Team Goals (-105 at DraftKings) 🔥 The Iraqis have scored in nine straight competitive matches, and Japan has allowed a goal in five of their last seven non-friendlies.

Iraq and Japan will face off today, but I have additional Asian Cup soccer predictions for Saturday. South Korea is another squad that could challenge the Japanese for the title, and although they aren’t as well-rounded as Japan, they are loaded with talent in certain positions. Heung-Min Son is the best player in Asia, and CB Min-Jae Kim recently won Serie A last season with Napoli and has since joined Bayern Munich.

Other key players include Wolverhampton Wolves forward Hee-Chan Hwang (10 Premier League goals this season) and Paris St-Germain’s Kang-In Lee, who netted two goals in South Korea’s 3-1 win against Bahrain to kick off the tournament. When South Korea plays at their best, they can be hard to beat, and I expect an offensive onslaught from them this Saturday against Jordan.

Jordan won their opening game 4-0 against Malaysia, so they showed their offensive talent to start the tournament. Playing in the Middle East allows Jordan to receive additional fan support, which could help them score at least one against the South Koreans. Jurgen Klinsmann’s squad could get scored on, but even if they don’t, I could see them scoring at least three goals on Saturday. Therefore, I’d recommend betting on Jordan vs. South Korea Over 2.5 Goals (-145 at DraftKings) 📈 because it’s one of my favorite Asian Cup soccer picks.

Odds and Predictions for Asian Cup Soccer, Featuring Japan vs. Iraq, Jordan vs. South Korea and More

Here are the latest Asian Cup soccer odds at DraftKings for Japan vs. Iraq and Jordan vs. South Korea:

Japan vs. Iraq - January 19, 2024 at 6:30 AM ET

  • Three-Way Money Line: Japan (-450) / Draw (+550) / Iraq (+1100)
  • Iraq Team Total: Over 0.5 (-105) vs. Under 0.5 (-115)

Jordan vs. South Korea - January 20, 2024 at 6:30 AM ET

  • Three-Way Money Line: Jordan (+850) / Draw (+500) / South Korea (-380)
  • Game Total (Over/Under): Over 2.5 (-145) vs. Under 2.5 (+110)

A $105 bet on Iraq O0.5 Team Goals (-105 at DraftKings) profits $100 if they score at least once, while a $115 wager on Iraq U0.5 Team Goals (-115 at DraftKings) returns $100 of winnings if they fail to score against Japan. I expect Japan to beat Iraq even with a goal from the underdogs, so if you want additional Asian Cup soccer predictions today, I’d recommend placing a bet on Japan to Win and Both Teams to Score (+160 at DraftKings). A $100 wager on this selection profits $160 if the Japanese wins and both teams find the back of the net.

For Saturday’s game, a $145 wager on O2.5 (-145 at DraftKings) returns $100 of winnings if there are at least three goals, while a $100 bet on U2.5 (+110 at DraftKings) profits $110 if the teams fail to score 3+ times. You could also bet $120 on South Korea to Win and O2.5 (-120 at DraftKings) to win $100 of profits if the South Koreans win and there are at least three goals. This market has slightly less juice compared to one of my Asian Cup soccer best bets above.

Lineups and Injury Report for Asian Cup Soccer, Including Hwang Hee-Chan & Mousa Al-Tamari

There are a few injuries to watch out for based on the lineups in the opening games, most notably South Korea’s Hwang Hee-Chain and Jordan’s Mousa Al-Tamari. Hee-Chain was left out of the starting lineup and bench in South Korea’s opening match, as the Wolves forward has been dealing with an injury to his left hip causing him to miss multiple training sessions in Doha leading up to Monday’s opener. It’ll be interesting to see if he plays on Saturday, but I’d bet that he will not be in the South Korea starting XI.

On the flip side, Jordan’s Mousa Al-Tamari had injury concerns leading up to the tournament, but he put those concerns to rest in their opening game. Al-Tamari scored twice in Jordan’s 4-0 win over Malaysia and was a key part of their attack. He should be ready to go against South Korea and could easily find the back of the net on Saturday.
