The New York Mets can't seem to catch a break right now.

New York was one of the biggest sellers ahead of the 2023 Major League Baseball Trade Deadline and dealt star duo Justin Verlander and Max Scherzer to the Houston Astros and Texas Rangers. The Mets also traded away outfielders Tommy Pham and Mark Canha as the club looks to reload ahead of the 2024 campaign.

The Mets have been disappointing this season and currently are in fourth place in the National League East standings at 50-61. New York's future plans seem to be in limbo and the club got even more bad news Monday as the club placed All-Star outfielder Starling Marte on the injured list with a groin strain, according to Mets insider Anthony DiComo.

"Starling Marte is also back on the injured list due to a right groin strain," DiComo said. "Concerning for a player who had groin surgery in the offseason."

Marte was one of the club's most consistent players last season but has had an up-and-down campaign after undergoing offseason surgery. The 34-year-old is slashing .248/.301/.324 to go along with five home runs and 28 RBIs across 86 games played so far this season.

New York's outfielder depth -- which at one point was a strength of the club -- certainly is being tested with Pham and Canha playing elsewhere and Marte now on the injured list. If the Mets were interested in an outside option, one player that could make some sense is former All-Star Corey Dickerson who recently became a free agent. It's unclear what the Mets will do, but the club's string of bad luck is continuing.
