Cincinnati Reds Prospect Overview: Former LSU Star Ty Floyd
The Cincinnati Reds have had some high-level pitching prospects as of late. One of their more underrated prospects is former LSU star Ty Floyd.
The right-hander measures in at 6-2, 200 pounds.
During his time at LSU, Floyd was often a starter or late-inning reliever. He appeared in 55 games, in which he started 27 of them, and posted a career record of 12-6. He posted a 4.17 ERA, 229 strikeouts, 74 walks, and held his opponents to a batting average of .203 in 175 innings as a Tiger. During his final collegiate season, he held a record of 7-0 and finished fourth in the SEC for strikeouts (120) and finished 5th in the nation for opponent batting average (.208) in 91 innings of work.
You can argue that some of his best performances came when the Tigers needed him the most. During the college World Series, he started two games, in which he started game No. 1 against the Florida Gators. He gave up 3 runs in eight innings and finished with a career-high 17 strikeouts.
Following his successful career at LSU, the Reds took him with the 38th pick in the 2023 MLB Draft.
Floyd will soon start his minor league career. He likely could see himself moving up the system fairly fast with some good outings in the lower tiers. He's an experienced pitcher that has the talent to make an impact in the big leagues one day.
