Cincinnati Reds Rally in Ninth, Beat Washington Nationals 6-5

What a win!

The Reds scored three runs with two outs in the ninth inning to beat the Nationals 6-5 on Sunday at Great American Ballpark.

Cincinnati trailed 5-3 with two outs in the ninth inning. Jonathan India ripped a double down the left field line to keep the game alive. He battled with Kyle Finnegan in a 10-pitch at-bat. That was all Will Benson needed to hit the game tying home run.

Christian Encarnacion-Strand didn't want to play extras. Instead, he hit the walk-off homer in the bottom of the ninth to give the Reds a 6-5 win. They improve to 2-1 on the season.

Nick Martinez made his Reds debut on Sunday, allowing three runs in five innings. He gave up six hits and also tallied three strikeouts.

The Reds took a 3-1 lead in the fourth inning after Elly De La Cruz hit a triple. He scored on Spencer Steer's single. The Nationals chipped away at the lead.

Lane Thomas hit a two-run single to tie the game 3-3 in the fifth inning. The Nationals took the lead when Trey Lipscomb hit a solo him run in the seventh. Washington added an insurance run in the eighth.

The Reds threatened in the bottom of the inning when Jemier Candelario hit a leadoff double, but Jake Fraley grounded out, De La Cruz struck out and Steer grounded out to end the inning.

The Nationals rallied past the Reds in the ninth inning on Saturday. Cincinnati returned the favor on Sunday to win the series.
