Jaylen Brown Visits Puerto Rico Aiming to Make an Impact

Boston Celtics wing Jaylen Brown used part of his free time during the All-Star break to positively impact the lives of Puerto Rico's youth.
Brown recently visited San Juan and spent some time playing basketball with kids, many of whom donned Celtics apparel. He is working with the VRDG Group Foundation, whose mission statement is "to drive innovation and disruption across investments and business industries, while having a positive impact on the communities and people we work with."
“I came here to enjoy a few days of vacation before reporting (to the Celtics) to continue the season," Brown said. "But also to explore Puerto Rico and get together with individuals to see how we can make a better world."
As is also his focus in the continental United States, the wing wants to improve job opportunities for people of color on the island through an emphasis on the power of education.
“They are the same things (here) as in the (United States)," he said. "Opportunities, resources, creating jobs and well-being for African Americans and Latinos. Things that are not talked about. Education is something that I have always been passionate about. Find different ways for youth to have the best education. Be a spokesperson. “We are having conversations (here) to see where those possibilities may be."
The 27-year-old is fresh off a fantastic scoring performance in the 2024 NBA All-Star Game, which marked the third All-Star appearance of his pro career. He scored 36 points — the second-most points of any player on his team, behind only Damian Lillard — and knocked down six 3-pointers in 22 minutes of playing time.
