Zion Williamson Ruled Out Ahead of Kings-Pelicans Game

The Kings have a chance to snap their losing streak against the weakened Pelicans.

The Sacramento Kings are 21-13 this season and amid a 2-game win streak, but have to take on the 21-15 New Orleans Pelicans on January 7, who have dominated the Kings this season. The Pelicans are 3-0 against the Kings on the season and are looking to extend that to 4-0 before attempting a five-game sweep in April, but they will have to do it tonight without one of their best players.

F Zion Williamson has been ruled out against the Kings with a leg injury after initially being questionable on the injury report.

Williamson is averaging 20.3 points, 5.7 assists, and 4.7 rebounds in his three games against the Kings this season, dropping 26 in his best game. The Pelicans will also be without G Jose Alvarado and F Matt Ryan on Sunday.

The Kings will be at near full strength but will miss F Trey Lyles, who is out with an ankle injury. Lyles has provided a great boost for the Kings off the bench since his return from a calf injury that kept him out for the first 13 games of the 2023-24 NBA season.

While fans are robbed of a fun game with Williamson, it will give them a better chance of snapping their losing streak to the Pelicans. Much of the workload will fall on Pelicans F Brandon Ingram, averaging 28 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 4 assists against Sacramento this season.

The game is set to tip off at 3 p.m. PT/6 p.m. ET at Golden 1 Center.
