Lakers News: LA Almost Made Sign-And-Trade Deal With Dallas For Guard This Summer
As free agency started, the fate of 2023 Los Angeles Lakers shooting guard Malik Beasley with the team hung in the balance. The team declined his expensive option for next season but there was some interest in bringing him back. After all, they had just traded for him at the trade deadline last season and General Manager Rob Pelinka has spoken in the past about his regard for Beasley. Ultimately, it wasn’t meant to be as the team moved on and Beasley ended up signing with the Milwaukee Bucks.
However, this didn’t stop LA from exploring some sign-and-trades for the sharp-shooting guard. It was rumored that before the team declined his option that they were doing their due diligence on any possible trades for him. It turns out that there was one team that almost made the move for the former Laker.
According to Michael Scotto, the Dallas Mavericks thought about going after Beasley.
"Dallas considered a sign-and-trade possibility with the Lakers for Beasley during the process, league sources told HoopsHype"
Now, this isn't the sign-and-trade deal that Laker fans likely wanted to hear about involving the Dallas Mavericks but this is interesting. The team could have gotten something of value for Beasley instead of just letting him walk but it just wasn't meant to be.
During his time with the Lakers, Beasley averaged 11.1 points per game and shot 35.3 percent from beyond the arch. Other than being a shooter, he doesn't bring much value so once his shot stopped hitting consistently, the team made the decision to remove him from the rotation.
His time in LA was short but the thought process behind getting him was a good one. Having a guy who can shoot effectively from three surrounding LeBron James and Anthony Davis makes all the sense in the world, it just didn't work out with Beasley.
We wish him the best in Milwaukee, except when he plays LA of course!
