Trail Blazers News: Win Over Charlotte This Week Came at a Price
The Portland Trail Blazers haven't had the easiest season, but they are determined to finish the year on a high note if possible. After long last, the team won the other night against the Charlotte Hornets on the road to pick up their first win since March 13.
However, the win over the Hornets did come at a price. Both Charlotte and Portland have been competing to see who the worst team is as the season winds down. With Portland winning over the Hornets, they extended their lead over Charlotte, giving them worse odds to land a better draft pick.
"But the victory came with a slight cost. The Blazers (20-56) pretty much locked themselves into ending the season with the fifth-worst record in the NBA. A loss to the Hornets (18-58) would have left both teams at 19-57 and in a tie for the fourth-worst record just ahead of the San Antonio Spurs (18-58)."
While this is a bummer in terms of the standings and draft race, the confidence gained from the team finally getting a win could possibly help them going forward. Young teams that continue to lose don't grow together, so Portland is looking to build off this victory.
The Blazers' players don't care about the future draft plans of the organization, so they will do whatever they can to find ways to win. It's been a trying season for them all, but the future remains bright in Rip City with all the young talent on the roster.
