New Chargers Signee Believes Opponents Won't Want to Face Bolts This Season
The Los Angeles Chargers have undergone multiple changes this offseason, with more likely to come. After a disappointing 5-12 finish to their 2023 season, the Bolts decided it was time to change the regime.
They brought in Jim Harbaugh to be the new head coach, with Joe Hortiz to take over as the general manager. They inherited a team with a poor salary cap situation, but have maneuvered around to get the Bolts back into a place of strength heading into the year.
The team brought in some veteran pieces around the edges, as they look to be more competitive next season. One of those is tight end Hayden Hurst, who spent last season with the Carolina Panthers. Hurst spoke about the upcoming year for the Bolts, saying that he believes opponents won't want to see the Chargers on their schedule due to the brand of football they will play.
"That's the mantra of this place; we're going to be physical," tight end Hayden Hurst said, "we're going to come at you. When you see us pop up on the schedule, it's going to be a long Sunday."
Under Harbaugh, the Chargers will likely take on the structure that his teams normally do. He likes to build out the offensive and defensive lines to ensure that the team has a level of physicality to it. The moves that have been made so far have reflected this, showing that the Bolts want to wear teams down within games.
"We want to out-physical teams. We want teams to fear us. We want teams to end up giving up in the fourth quarter, where we're just hitting our stride," Hurst said. "I think that's where you get the most productive football, when you're just out-physicaling people."
Things may not change overnight, but the Chargers are looking to build sustainable success. They believe in the route that they are headed and now will need to finish building the roster out through the rest of the offseason.
