Chargers News: Ex-LA Head Coach Brandon Staley Passed Over For DC Gig
The 2023 season for your Los Angeles Chargers was a nightmare, and that's putting it lightly. Nothing went right for the Bolts, resulting in head coach Brandon Staley being fired. It was a long time coming for the Chargers and their fans, but it ultimately led them to Jim Harbaugh, so everything worked out for the best.
While the Chargers have their guy, Staley is still searching for a new gig. Although his time with the Bolts was forgettable, he still had plenty of suitors willing to interview him for their defensive coordinator.
That's where he made his name with the Los Angeles Rams. The Rams were among the teams considering Staley but ultimately chose an in-house promotion.
Staley lost out on a return to the Rams as they chose to promote their pass rush coordinator and linebackers coach, Chris Shula.
Although the last three seasons have tainted Staley's image, he did great work as the Rams' defensive coordinator.
He helped guide the Rams' defense to fist in points and total yards allowed. It was a big reason he was an attractive head coaching candidate around the league after the 2020 season. We all know what happened after that, though.
The other teams considering Stlaey were the Miami Dolphins and the Green Bay Packers. However, those two teams have already found their defensive coordinators.
It doesn't seem to be in the cards for Staley this season. Nonetheless, we wish him luck on his next journey.
