Chargers News: How Writer Thinks LA Can Use Personnel To Boost Offense

Simply need to get him more playing time.

After spending significant draft capital on their offense in recent seasons, your Los Angeles Chargers' most recent first-round pick from 2023 has surprisingly not seen the field nearly as much as his positional counterparts to start the season.

Needing anything to shake up their dismal start to the season, one writer suggests getting Quentin Johnston some more time on the field rather than Josh Palmer's role as the third receiver on the team.

Johnston showed out in Chargers training camp with plenty of explosive moments. And yet, since the beginning of the regular season, the Chargers’ first-round receiver finds himself primarily sidelined. Of course, it’s worth pointing out that the Chargers have a loaded receiver room at the top. Keenan Allen, Mike Williams, and Joshua Palmer are all receivers who have had 750+ yard receiving seasons for the team. Getting Johnston on the field would not be as easy as the situations fellow rookies Zay Flowers or Jordan Addison walked into. Still, it’s hard to feel that the Chargers have done their best when looking at his usage. Johnston played 22 snaps in Week 1 out of a possible 81. In Week 2, that number dropped to 10.

A run after the catch specialist while dominating the college ranks at TCU, Johnston's play time has shockingly been low considering his first round pedigree.

Comparing his draft position to both Addison and Flowers picked after him, the former Horned Frog hasn't had nearly the same impact for the Bolts relative to the price paid for his services.

Inexplicably, Johnston's big frame and abilities haven't been used in lieu of his veteran teammates, but we're hoping that changes along with LA's record starting this weekend.
