Key Features:

  • Unlike competitors, Beats Fit Pro earbuds are fully functional with both Android and Apple products
  • High-quality active noise canceling (ANC) and transparency modes
  • Long battery life and extra charging capability from matching case
  • Comfortable, secure fit for working out and more

In the past decade, cordless bluetooth earbuds have become affordable and widely available. Gone are the days of working out with troublesome corded headphones, much to the relief of athletes of all levels.

But now, the market has become so flooded with choices that it can be difficult to decide which headphones are the best option. Here, we’ll review the Beats Fit Pro, in our opinion one of the best pairs of headphones for working out, particularly if you’re looking for affordable, high-quality noise-canceling earbuds. Those looking for an equivalent alternative to Apple’s Airpods Pro will not be disappointed by the Beats Fit Pro. Let’s explore the features, pros and cons of these earbuds, as well as why we think they’re such a great choice.

Beats Fit Pro Overview

Beats Fit Pro

The Beats Fit Pro are wireless, noise-canceling earbuds that offer high-quality sound and a comfortable, secure fit. They are loved by athletes for their flexible wingtip style, which keeps them stationary in one’s ears while working out, as well as for their water- and sweat-resistant properties. Unlike Apple’s Airpods Pro, the Beats Fit Pro are fully compatible with both Apple and Android devices, making them a fantastic option for Android users or those with devices from different makers (for example, someone who owns an iPhone but who works on a Microsoft Surface tablet).

Our testers raved about the top-tier audio quality from the Beats Fit Pro earbuds, as well as the many use cases made possible by the earbuds’ noise canceling and transparency modes. Their spatial audio feature makes for an immersive experience while playing video games or watching movies. It uses head tracking to give you a more accurate soundscape.

One tester said, “Noise cancellation is above average when it comes to ear phones. For context, my apartment building's water fountain is right outside my window and I can normally hear the rushing water. Not so when I put on noise cancellation. Also does a good job of drowning out my noisy upstairs neighbors and any ambient noise in the gym.”

The Beats Fit Pro also have a long battery life, making them ideal for prolonged use and plane travel. According to the website, they can run for six hours while using the active noise-canceling mode, and their carrying case includes an extra 18 hours of charging capacity.

According to one of our testers, “These usually run for four to five hours before I have to charge them again for 30–45 minutes. I charge my case maybe every other day.” Another tester weighed in, “One thing I love is the case works as a charger so if my earbuds start to die I just pop them back in the case for five minutes to get another hour of play time. Personally I have never run out of battery completely for both the case and the earbuds.”

The Beats Fit Pro have a variety of one-button controls on the earbud that make use in crowded or chaotic environments much easier. If you have an Android, you can download the Beats app for enhanced controls and battery life monitoring.

The testers commented on the convenient and compact size of the Beats Fit Pro, too. They are small, so small that many wouldn’t notice them at first glance. They don’t protrude from the ear at all, and the wingtip piece fits comfortably into the shell of the ear. They are certainly less visible than Apple’s Airpods Pro, which are larger and only come in one color. In contrast, the Beats Fit Pro are available in seven beautiful colors so you can personalize your earbuds to fit your own style. One tester commented, “They are so discreet that people don’t realize you are wearing headphones. I have had several occasions where people try to talk to me at the gym because they can’t see I’m wearing anything.”

Beats Fit Pro Colors

  • Tidal blue, a deep gray-blue that is neutral and elegant
  • Coral pink, a warm orange-pink that evokes tropical climates
  • Volt yellow, a neon yellow that bears a hint of highlighter green
  • Beats black, a classic matte black with a subtle red contrast
  • Beats white, a clear, bright white with a flash of red
  • Sage gray, a warm charcoal gray with a gentle sage green accent
  • Stone purple, a bright, clear lavender color

Beats Fit Pro Controls

You can easily control your Beats Fit Pro in a variety of ways. If you pair your Beats with an Apple device, you can use the ‘Hey Siri’ function to perform the same tasks you might normally do with on-device controls, such as changing songs, answering calls, and switching listening modes. If you pair your Beats with an Android device, you can use the Beats app to customize your on-device controls and get more detailed information about your earbuds.

The Beats Fit Pro also come with built-in commands for the single button on each earbud. These commands are as follows:

  • One short click plays or pauses audio playback, answers or hangs up a phone call
  • Two short clicks skip to the next song or track
  • Three short clicks go back to the previous song or track
  • One long click [long press and hold] switches the mode of the earbuds from transparency to noise canceling or vice versa

Beats Fit Pro Battery Life and Charge Time

Battery life

The long battery life is one of the features we like most about the Beats Fit Pro. The exact battery life of your earbuds depends on which mode you use them in; active noise canceling mode uses a great deal of power and therefore a charge won’t last you as long in that function. Still, the Beats Fit Pro typically last for about six hours with ANC on per charge.

The testers all loved that the Beats Fit Pro have a Fast Fuel charging mode. If you wear them until the earbuds are completely out of charge, just five minutes in the case will give you an hour of listening time. This is super convenient for those times when you don’t have long to recharge your earbuds between uses.

You can find advanced information about the battery life of your earbuds and their case in the Beats app (for Android) or in the Settings app (for iPhone).

Charging

When the Beats Fit Pro run low on battery, you can recharge them in their charging case. The case can store up to 18 hours worth of ANC listening in its lithium-ion battery. The charging case recharges with a standard USB-C cable. The Beats Fit Pro case is not compatible with wireless charging.

How To Wear Beats Fit Pro

Beats Fit Pro ORIGINAL 1

To wear your Beats Fit Pro, simply slip them from the case and into your ears. The wingtip protrusion is made to keep the earbud firmly in your ear by sitting snugly against the curve of your ear. You may need to adjust or twist it a few times to find a comfortable fit. Likewise, the Beats Fit Pro include three silicone tips of different sizes, which can easily be switched out for a more customized fit. You want to find an ear tip size that keeps the earbud in your ear, but it shouldn’t hurt or feel uncomfortable.

Once you get your Beats Fit Pro situated comfortably in your ears, you’ll want to pair them to your device. For Android devices, you can do this through the Beats app. On Apple devices, you can connect it in your Settings app under the Bluetooth category.

Some people find that the wingtip feature makes their ear uncomfortable after wearing it for a few hours. This can usually be alleviated by rotating the earbud until you find a better fit. You may also need to adjust the silicone tip to find a size that works best for your ears. One tester wrote, “I never liked wearing in-ear headphones because they always hurt my ears. But I do love the Beats Fit Pro!” Regardless, these may never be the most comfortable earbuds for some because of the wingtip feature. It’s mostly there for security while working out or jogging, so if you’re looking for the best headphones for sleeping, this may not be the best pair for you.

Are Beats Fit Pro Good for Working Out?

Yes, the Beats Fit Pro are great for working out. Exercise is one of the most compelling use cases for Beats Fit Pro. Their IPX4 water resistance means it’s safe to exercise outdoors—no need to worry about getting caught in the rain as you run. The Beats Fit Pro are also sweat-resistant, which is a must for any earbud that is made for athletes. Of course, water-resistant is not waterproof, so don’t go swimming laps in your Beats Fit Pros.

Beyond being sweat- and water-resistant, the Beats Fit Pro are great for working out because they have a firm, secure fit. Our testers report that you can do practically any exercise (including jumping or running) without worrying about them falling out, as long as you get a good fit to begin with. “I can do every exercise in them. HIIT sessions, running, squatting, weightlifting. They stay in there no matter how much you move,” one tester wrote. These would make an ideal pair of earbuds for running for anyone who likes logging miles without worrying about their headphones staying put.

Because the wingtip piece fits gently into the curve of your ear, they stay firm in your ear with activity and don’t cause soreness with wear. If you have an Apple device, you can use their ear tip fit test feature to check how well your Beats Fit Pro work with your current settings. It’s a good idea to do this before working out to double check that you have a secure fit.

“I do everything in my Beats Fit Pro! They are literally my security blanket,” one tester wrote. I listen to podcasts while I am weightlifting or just turn on the noise canceling when I’m going shopping. I love them for working out!”

The easy controls are also super useful during exercise, according to our testers. If you pair them with an Apple device, you can use the “Hey Siri” verbal command to do just about anything, including make calls, send texts, play or pause music. If you have an Android device, you can use the one-button commands (see above) to pause and play music and make phone calls.

What we like about the Beats Fit Pro:

  • Compatible with both Android and Apple ecosystem
  • High-quality sound and spatial audio for audiophiles
  • Effective, adaptive active noise canceling that adjusts to your environment
  • Long battery life and rapid charging
  • Secure, reliable fit makes these great earbuds for running
  • Lots of modern color options
  • Sleek design
  • One-button device controls
  • H1 chip for instant connectivity to Apple devices; compatibility with Find My on iOS
  • IPX4 water- and sweat-resistant
  • Six months free subscription to Apple music included when you purchase directly from the Beats website

What to consider about the Beats Fit Pro:

  • Microphone quality isn’t as good as that of the Airpods Pro; some people find they sound muffled on phone calls or that background noise from their environment is distracting
  • Wingtip fit style isn’t comfortable for all users
  • Some people find the bass too prominent in these earbuds
  • Can only pair with one device at a time
  • Charging cable (USB-C) is very short

Sound Quality

Phone Calls

There are five mics in each of the Beats Fit Pro earbuds, four of which are active during phone calls. This ensures decent call quality, but unfortunately the microphone quality is one weakness of the Beats Fit Pro. The mics aren’t bad, but the call quality is sometimes a bit muffled or distant, our testers report. And though these earbuds have head movement tracking built in for the spatial audio, they don’t do a great job of isolating and blocking out your background noise during phone calls. In fact, they transmit your background noise about as well as they do your own voice, which isn’t ever ideal but is especially problematic for making phone calls in busy, crowded areas.

Despite their flaws, the Beats Fit Pro are still usable for making phone calls, especially if call quality isn’t too important to you. There are other benefits of using the Beats Fit Pro to make phone calls as well. They connect to mobile devices easily and without dropping out, and their one-button touch controls make them ideal for hands-free calling.

Music

The Beats Fit Pro offer an incredible level of sound quality for music. Without the less-than-stellar mic function to detract from the experience, you can really appreciate the depth and layers of music with these earbuds. The vocals are clear—in fact, it seems there is a sound setting that amplifies this top-level of sound in music tracks. Some may count this as a negative, but if you’re listening in a loud or busy environment, this feature helps you continue to hear the nuances of each song. Some users find that the bass is too prominent in the Beats Fit Pro, but our testers didn’t find it overpowering at all, and subjective preferences about bass volume may be influencing reviewers’ thoughts. A stronger bass beat also keeps the rhythm of each song audible even as you pass through noisy environments.

The sound quality for music in the Beats Fit Pro easily wins out over the sound quality of the Airpods Pro, but it doesn’t quite match the Bose Quietcomfort earbuds, which for their part are much more expensive than the Beats. If you’re looking for great sound quality for listening to music, but you don’t want to pay top-of-the-line prices, these are hard to beat.

Noise Cancellation

The Beats Fit Pro have some of the best active noise canceling (ANC) at this price point. Their noise cancellation, with its head movement tracking and adaptive EQ, is better than that of the Airpods Pro and older Beats wireless earbuds, such as the Beats Studio Buds. Their secure fit, with silicone ear tips and a flexible wingtip piece, adds to their ANC function. Our testers love that these wireless earbuds also include a transparency mode. It doesn’t work quite as well as the active noise canceling does, but it’s still a great feature.

The one weakness of the Beats Fit Pro noise cancellation is that while it does a great job of isolating and neutralizing background noise for the user, it doesn’t perform as well when transmitting audio on phone or video calls. The Airpods Pro work better for that purpose, so if you plan to make calls in noisy areas, those are probably a better choice.

Beats Fit Pro vs. Airpods Pro

Beats Fit Pro ORIGINAL

It’s tough to directly compare the Beats Fit Pros with the Airpods Pro, because these two pairs are similar in specs and performance. Which pair is best will really depend on how you use your earbuds and what you’re looking for. Both pairs have a long battery life while using ANC and stored in the case for recharging. The Airpods have a slightly longer case battery capacity, and we also like how the Airpods case is compatible with wireless charging. The Beats Fit Pro case is not wireless charging compatible and instead uses a USB-C charging cord. They both offer great sound quality, reliable one-touch pairing, simple controls and audio sharing. They both have water- and sweat-resistance for exercise. Only the Airpods Pro have reliable dust resistance, so if you use chalk on your hands while working out, those may be a better choice.

The Beats Fit Pro have an upper hand on sound quality; their audio quality is sure to impress any audiophile. We also like that you can use them with both Apple and Android products. This is especially useful if you have devices with multiple conflicting operating systems, such as a Samsung Galaxy phone that you pair with an iPad for reading the news.

The one thing the Airpods Pro do much better on than the Beats Fit Pro is the microphone quality. While you can absolutely make calls on your Beats Fit Pros, the sound quality is limited. Our testers report they sound muffled or distant when making phone calls. But it’s difficult to beat the seamless pairing and flawless audio of the Airpods Pro calling experience.

These are two very similar, equally high-quality pairs of wireless earbuds. Which pair works best for you will depend on your typical use cases.

Both have:

  • Long battery life in earbuds and in case
  • Great sound quality
  • Comfortable fit
  • Audio sharing
  • Water- and sweat-resistance
  • One-touch pairing

Beats Fit Pro are better for:

  • Exercise, thanks to the ear hooks (flexible wingtips) and close, secure in-ear fit
  • The best in layered sound quality for movies and music
  • Android or mixed OS users; can pair with both Apple and Android devices
  • Those looking for a more affordable option
  • Quick recharging

Airpods Pro are better for:

  • Phone calls and audio recording thanks to great mics and background noise cancellation
  • Wireless charging
  • Accessibility, thanks to features like announce notifications, conversation boost, and headphone accommodations
  • Dust resistance
  • Voice commands with ‘Hey Siri’ function

Beats Fit Pro vs. Bose QuietComfort Earbuds

Let’s compare the Beats Fit Pro earbuds to their Bose equivalent, the QuietComfort earbuds. These wireless earbuds are quite similar. They both offer IPX4 water-resistance, ear hooks for secure fit and excellent sound quality. The microphone quality on both is simply average; if your primary use case for your earbuds is making phone calls, we recommend you check out the Airpods Pro instead. The Airpods Pro are tough to beat on microphone quality, and they easily isolate and neutralize background noise while you’re on the phone.

Bose is known for having some of the best sound quality products on the market, and these earbuds are no exception. The QuietComfort earbuds offer better and more accurate sound quality than the Beats Fit Pro, but the difference is slight to all but the most avid audiophiles. They also offer slightly better noise canceling and a longer battery life. We don’t like that they’re physically a great deal bulkier than the Beats Fit Pro or the Airpods Pro. They’re still highly portable, but a smaller option is more convenient.

One tester compared the two headphone brands: “The Beats Fit Pro are by far my favorite headphones. I had a pair of Bose over-ear headphones for years that I thought I would never replace but the sleek new design of the Pro had me curious. I never liked in-ear headphones before trying the Beats Fit pro but this new model has me swooning.”

The Beats Fit Pro have the benefit of the Apple H1 chip, which makes pairing with Apple devices much more seamless. They’re also more affordable than the Bose QuietComfort earbuds, and since the specs are quite similar, we recommend the Beats Fit Pro overall.

Both have:

  • IPX4 water resistance
  • Average microphone quality
  • Active noise canceling
  • Great sound quality
  • USB-C charging

Beats Fit Pro are better for:

  • Apple pairing with H1 chip
  • Slim, stylish profile with more color choices
  • Exercise
  • A budget-friendly option
  • Spatial audio

Bose QuietComfort are better for:

  • A more comfortable fit, especially for wearing for longer periods
  • Best in class active noise canceling
  • Battery life
  • Sound quality
