What Is Everlywell?

Everlywell is an Austin, Texas, based at-home lab testing company that provides a number of convenient home health and wellness tests.

There are several reasons someone may choose to use an at-home test rather than request the same test at the doctor’s office. These include:

  • Time and convenience
  • Cost concerns
  • Discretion and privacy
  • Curiosity (rather than a medical concern)

Everlywell offers several different types of tests, including sexual health tests, hormone tests, metabolic health tests, food allergy tests and nutrient deficiency tests.

Everlywell has also expanded to offer its own line of dietary supplements, most of which align with the nutrient deficiency tests it offers.

In addition, it provides telehealth services for a variety of health concerns.

However, its main draw continues to be its home tests.

How Everlywell Works

You can order Everlywell tests directly from the brand’s website without a prescription.

After ordering your test, you will receive a kit in the mail that contains everything you need to collect your sample and mail it back in.

Before collecting your sample, you’ll need to register your kit on the Everlywell website or app (which is currently only available in the Apple App Store).

Following Everlywell’s instructions in the kit, which are also available in video format online, you’ll then need to collect and prepare your sample to be returned.

Then, you’ll simply need to drop off your sample with USPS or UPS—depending on which one your kit instructions say.

After your sample is received by the lab, you should receive your results electronically within five business days. Your results will also be independently reviewed by an Everlywell physician.

From there, you can reach out to Everlywell for help interpreting your results and advice on next steps, or you can share your results directly with your healthcare provider.

Everlywell Testing

Everlywell currently offers 29 unique tests. Below, we’ve detailed some of the brand’s best sellers.

If you have any abnormal results from your Everlywell test or tests, it’s a good idea to consult your healthcare provider for guidance.

Everlywell Food Sensitivity Test

Everlywell Food Sensitivity Test

Everlywell’s Food Sensitivity Test measures how your immune system reacts to 96 common foods by measuring IgG antibody reactivity. It requires a small blood sample from a finger prick.

In your results, each food on the test will be rated from zero to three, with a score of zero representing normal reactivity and three representing high reactivity.

This information may be helpful if you suspect food sensitivities, however, "you will still have to confirm these sensitivities with an elimination diet," says NASM-certified nutrition coach Pete Nastasi. He mentions that, “the body’s IgG response to food is completely normal, so these tests are really only indicators of what you’ve been eating recently and don’t have much clinical significance.” In fact, research has shown that a higher IgG response is actually better, because it means that you are more tolerant to the food in question.

Everlywell also offers a Food Sensitivity Comprehensive Test, which measures your IgG reactivity to 204 unique foods.

Everlywell Metabolism Test

Everlywell Metabolism Test

Everlywell’s Metabolism Test tests your levels of three hormones that may affect your weight and energy levels:

This test requires both a finger prick and saliva sample.

Everlywell Testosterone Test

Everlywell Testosterone Test

Everlywell’s testosterone test (for men) measures total testosterone levels using a quick finger prick blood sample.

Men who are experiencing changes to their body composition, energy levels or sex drive may be interested in learning if they have low testosterone.

Everlywell STD Test

Everlywell STD Test

The Everlywell STD Test screens for the following sexually transmitted diseases (STDs):

  • Chlamydia
  • Gonorrhea
  • Hepatitis C
  • Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)
  • Syphilis
  • Trichomoniasis

There are separate tests for men and women, because the test for women requires a vaginal swab and the test for men requires a urine sample. In addition, each test also requires a blood sample from a finger prick.

These tests are also sent in discreet packaging.

Everlywell Allergy Test

Everlywell Allergy Test

Everlywell also offers two allergy tests, one for food and one for common indoor and outdoor allergens.

The Food Allergy Test measures IgE antibody reactivity to all of the following:

  • Almonds
  • Cow’s milk
  • Egg white
  • Egg yolk
  • Peanuts
  • Shrimp
  • Soy
  • Tuna
  • Wheat

The Indoor and Outdoor Allergy Test measures IgE reactivity to over 40 different grasses, trees, weeds, molds, pet allergens, pests and dust mites.

High levels of IgE reactivity indicate allergy.

Both of these tests require only a finger prick blood sample.

Everlywell Hormone Tests

Everlywell Hormone Tests

In addition to the Metabolism Test and Testosterone Test, Everlywell offers several other hormone tests:

These tests all require a blood sample and/or saliva sample.

Everlywell Thyroid Test

Everlywell Thyroid Test

The Everlywell Thyroid Test measures four key markers of thyroid health and function:

  • TSH
  • Free T3
  • Free T4
  • Thyroid antibodies

It requires a finger prick blood sample.

If your results are abnormal, you may qualify for ongoing support from an Everlywell physician. You may also qualify to receive prescription medications directly from Everlywell.

Everlywell also provides several nutrient deficiency tests:

The Pros and Cons of Everlywell

  • Convenient, at-home tests for a variety of health concerns
  • Written and video instructions for easy sample collection
  • Telehealth and physician follow-ups available
  • Lab testing at CLIA-certified and CAP-certified labs
  • Physician-reviewed test results

How Accurate Is Everlywell?

While the brand can’t claim 100 percent accurate results, Everlywell partners with laboratories that are certified through the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) and the College of American Pathologists (CAP). These certifications help ensure that Everlywell’s partner laboratories follow strict procedures for accuracy, cleanliness and quality assurance.

"Despite the results being accurate, they may not be clinically significant," says Nastasi. This is why he encourages anyone who decides to use an at-home test kit, such as Everlywell, to still consult with a healthcare professional before making any changes to their current lifestyle or dietary routine.
