After teasing the next generation of Galaxy smartphones and Galaxy AI, Samsung just unveiled the entire lineup of its Galaxy S24 family. Consisting of the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra, the lineup keeps a similar design from the previous generation, speeds up performance, and infuses an enhanced software experience.

We’re currently on site in San Jose at Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event and had the chance to spend some time with three new phones. If you’re already sold, you don’t need to wait, as Samsung’s already taking preorders with competitive deals. Ahead, we’ll unpack how to preorder and save and share some early insights on Samsung’s Galaxy S24 lineup.

Samsung Galaxy S24, S24+, S24 Ultra: Pricing, Release Date, and Preorders

2-Samsung Galaxy S24:S24+

In typical Samsung fashion, Samsung is offering some terrific deals to make its latest lineup of smartphones affordable.

In fact, you can save as much as $970 on the S24, S24+, or S24 Ultra with an eligible device trade-in. So if you lock in a value for a current phone or an older one you have around, you can send it in to score savings on the latest device. Plus, if you preorder, you’ll score a $100 credit to use on accessories or another Samsung gadget.

Samsung will even automatically double your storage with the entry-level S24 jumping from 128GB to 256GB and the S24+ becoming 512GB from 256 GB. That’s a pretty terrific value and ensures you have plenty of room for photos and videos. With the S24 Ultra, the base 256GB becomes 512GB, and the 512GB jumps to 1TB.

You can preorder Samsung’s Galaxy S24, S24+, and S24 Ultra now from the brand directly, and these will officially launch on Jan. 31.

A similar look and a new material for the Ultra

1-Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra Hands-On

Make no mistake: Samsung’s working design language for the Galaxy S series is both modern and comfortable to hold. We’ve seen the design teams work towards a more unified look across the lineup, and that’s still the same with the Galaxy S24.

While you can still see the same thin, lightweight aluminum and stainless steel construction on the S24 and S24+, Samsung’s first titanium frame for a smartphone is debuting with the S24 Ultra.

According to Samsung, the titanium is not just a more premium material, but it actually makes the Ultra one of the more durable phones in the lineup. I got some hands-on time with it already here and could immediately feel that difference, it just feels heavier and more solid in the hand. The stronger material is paired with Corning Gorilla Armor for improved resistance against drops and scratches. Like the standard S24 or plus, it also meets the specs for the IP68 resistance rating.

One other key difference over the previous S23 Ultra is Samsung fully flattening the larger, still 6.8-inch Dynmaic AMOLED 2X display. It’s now an easier device to hold and to write on with the integrated S-Pen, thanks to it being entirely flat. Simply, no more sloped edges.

The Galaxy S24 and S24+ each offer slightly larger screens than the S23 counterparts at 6.2 inches and 6.7 inches respectively. While the S24 sticks with a full HD+, the S24+ steps things up with a QHD+. And Samsung’s Galaxy S design continues on the back with three cameras on the S24 and S24+, and four on the S24 Ultra.

Samsung’s Galaxy S24 and S24+ will come in Onyx Black, Marble Gray, Cobalt Violet, and Amber Yellow, while the S24 Ultra comes in Titanium Gray, Titanium Black, Titanium Violet, and Titanium Yellow. As you might suspect, Samsung will offer some exclusive colors on their site as well.

From the entry-level S24 to the S24+ and S24 Ultra, Samsung’s sticking with a similar design language that feels premium and ergonomic. It’s managed to improve displays and stretch the sizes a bit, with the biggest improvements arriving on the Ultra.

Galaxy AI arrives alongside performance boosts

3-Samsung Galaxy S24:S24+

As we all suspected, and as had Samsung teased, Galaxy AI is now official. While it’s an umbrella set of features, it’s essentially a boon for smart features on the device. Image enhancements like remastering and adjusting tone levels now get AI-infused smarts to make it, well, smarter, and allow the S24, S24+, and S24 Ultra to learn more about your habits and how you really use your phone.

Out of the box all three of these are running the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 mobile chipset for Galaxy, which is designed to keep these devices running well for many years to come and power the new use cases. The S24 pairs it with 8GBs of RAM, while the S24+ and S24 Ultra step things up with 12GBs of RAM. This way, you can multitask and never have to close an app as well as game, edit videos, and do even more productivity-centric tasks without skipping a beat.

One of the most exciting new Samsung features is Live Translate. Essentially, if you’re traveling in a country where they speak a different language, you can talk into your phone and have your phone automatically translate your words into that different language a few seconds later. Then when the other person responds, your phone can translate that back for you too. It could be tremendously helpful for frequent travelers, and it comes automatically built-in.

There is also an interpreter app that splits the screen in two and can translate a conversation with two people in real-time. Even neater is the ability to long press the home button and then circle something on the screen to search for it. Samsung built a lot of these features with Google, and it works for both text and visuals. So if you circle a photo of a plant and want to know the type, it can pull up the results in a snap and you won’t have to leave the app.

Samsung’s even joining the generative AI bandwagon with the ability to help write messages and emails with specific tones, while also letting you summarize notes. With photos, you can get a little more creative with creating backgrounds and even interjecting flair.

In my hands-on time, it all ran well, but it’s like the second generation of some Samsung features that current Galaxy owners already use daily. Samsung has also promised that some of these AI features will roll back to the S23 series, the Z Fold, and Z Flip—it just remains to be seen when.

There are also some nice camera improvements. The Galaxy S24 and S24+ are sticking with three camera setups consisting of a 50-megapixel wide main camera, a 12-megapixel ultrawide camera, and a 10-megapixel telephoto camera that delivers 3x optical zoom and 10x Space Zoom. That’s not a giant hardware leap forward, but it’s still one of the most capable sets of lenses on the market.
Things go into high gear with the S24 Ultra’s four-camera array consisting of a 200-megapixel main wide camera, a 12-megapixel ultrawide camera, a 50-megapixel telephoto camera for 5x optical zoom, and a 10-megapixel telephoto camera for 3x optical zoom. All of this comes together to let you shoot from 0.5x up to a wild 100x should you need it. Samsung’s infusing AI here to help you get a better image and we’re really eager to put this through its paces in some longer-term testing.
