Samsung just unveiled its 2023 line of TVs and that includes updates to The Frame and the Neo QLED 4K and 8K models, along with a fresh OLED TV in the mix.
While these won’t hit the market until later this year—likely in the spring—we’re breaking down what’s new and current deals on 2022 models from Samsung that still offer an excellent viewing experience.
The Frame Gets New Bezels And An Auto-Rotating Wall Mount
Leading the pack is an update to Samsung’s The Frame TV that looks like a piece of art when it’s turned off. Don’t expect a ton of changes–The Frame 2023 will be very similar to the 2022 model. It opts for the same excellent 4K QLED (Quantum Dot LED) panel with a matte finish and the anti-reflection coating. The latter work together to ensure there aren’t any reflections when viewing the screen and in turn it makes the art appear more realistic.
All of this is staying the same for 2023, but the new features coming for The Frame include new bezels and wall mount. Currently, you can pick from a range of colors for bezels (basically, the frame for The Frame) made by Samsung, but later this year new metal ones will debut. For a TV that’s all about customization, it’s nice to see more options. We’re curious if the metal bezels will come at a premium compared to the standard ones.
And in 2023, Samsung is formally introducing and expanding its auto-rotating wall mount, allowing you to rotate The Frame from landscape to portrait mode with the click of a button. We imagine this will be a dramatic effect–and be a little costly. Right now, Samsung offers an auto-rotating wall mount at $349.99 and it works with the 55-inch or 65-inch sized TVs. Samsung also offers the same mount for 43-inch to 55-inch TVs.
The good news is that whether you just bought a Frame for the holidays, or want to grab another when there’s a great deal, the 2022 model is still an excellent option. It starts at $599 for the 32-inch size and goes up to an 85-inch for $3,499.99 (originally $4,299.99). While it’s not discounted right now, you can save up to $470 on it with the trade-in of a Galaxy smartphone.
Neo QLED 4K and 8K TVs Get Better Visuals
After the Neo QLED improvements last year, Samsung isn’t delivering a complete redesign to the panel or the TV, but continuing with several updates. Both the 4K and 8K Neo QLED TVs will still be powered by Quantum Mini LEDs, ideal for better control when creating the image and offering plenty of vibrancy.
Additionally, these TVs will upscale the content using a new trained AI that can also tackle HDR remastering. So in addition to upscaling to 4K or 8K, these TVs can also improve SDR (standard dynamic range) content to closer to HDR (high-dynamic range) for a more immersive experience.
Additionally, the 2023 Neo QLED 4K and 8K lines will offer more modern builds that are thinner thanks to smaller power parts inside, and boasting smaller bezels that take the screen to the very edge. With select models, a SmartThings router will be built-in to power smart home connectivity as well.
Samsung’s S95C OLED Will Come In 55-inch, 65-inch and 77-inch Sizes
Similar to Neo QLED, Samsung’s delivering some nice improvements to its OLED offering. With this TV, you’ll get a very immersive experience thanks to self-powering and self-lit pixels, but these can’t rival the direct brightness of a QLED. Still, OLEDs are a very popular option for those who need the best picture possible.
For 2023, the Samsung OLED will add in a 77-inch size that will join the 55-inch and 65-inch models. Each model has a 4K Quantum Dot OLED viewing experience that’s housed in a TV that’s less than half an inch thick. The panel this year will increase the brightness, while still keeping core features like content upscaling and a 144Hz refresh rate that makes it great for gaming or watching sports.
- 77-inch S95C OLED 4K Smart TV 2023 ($4,499.99 at Samsung)
- 65-inch S95C OLED 4K Smart TV 2023 ($3,299.99 at Samsung)
- 55-inch S95C OLED 4K Smart TV 2023 ($2,499.99 at Samsung)
The 2022 S95B OLEDs performed very well in our testing this past year and we expect that to remain the same. Samsung isn’t alone in the space with LG and Sony also offering OLEDs in their respective TV lineups.
You can also save up to $900 on Samsung’s 2022 OLEDs for both the 55-inch and 65-inch size. Asides from the panel improvements, these are two excellent options for those after a premium viewing experience. We’d recommend you shop for these in a space where you can control direct lighting for the most immersive view.
