Arizona State and Arizona will begin their Pac-12 series on Friday night as the teams meet in Tucson with the hopes of breaking their respective losing streaks.

In-state rivals Arizona and Arizona State will meet in the first of a three-game series starting Friday night at Hi Corbett Field. The Wildcats come into Friday night's game with an overall record of 7-8 and a conference record of 2-1. The team has lost two games in a row with the most recent being a 9-2 defeat by Loyola Marymount. In the loss, Arizona earned a 1-0 lead with Emilio Corona scoring on a fielding error. LMU was able to take a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the second inning before Corona scored again in the top of the fourth inning when Richie Morales was walked with the bases loaded. From there, LMU led the scoring efforts with three runs scored in both the fifth and sixth innings to secure the win. Anthony “Tonko” Susac was credited with the loss, giving up three earned runs in three innings pitched.

The Sun Devils bring a three-game losing streak into the weekend series with the most recent being a 6-4 loss to New Mexico to bring the team's overall record to 7-9 and its conference record to 1-2. Against the Lobos, Arizona State jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Brandon Compton hit into a fielder's choice and was thrown out at first which allowed Harris Williams to score. Ryan Campos and Nick McLain both scored in that inning by wild pitches. New Mexico scored three runs in the fourth and sixth innings to take a 6-3 lead. The Sun Devils were able to score one more run in the bottom of the eight when Kien Vu hit into a fielder’s choice, scoring Kevin Karstetter. Sean Fitzpatrick was credited with the loss for Arizona State.

Arizona and Arizona State met five times last year. The Sun Devils won three of the games, however, the Wildcats earned a 20-0 win in April and another 12-3 win in May.
