After upsetting top-seeded High Point, Longwood goes for its 2nd NCAA tournament bid in 3 years when it takes on No. 2 seed UNC Asheville for the Big South tourney title

Longwood (20-13) won a three-way tiebreaker for the fifth seed in the Big South Conference tournament after finishing 6-10 in league play. On Sunday, the Lancers will play for the tournament championship and the accompanying automatic bid to the NCAA tourney when it faces No. 2 seed UNC Asheville (22-11) at the Qubein Center in High Point, North Carolina. Longwood eliminated fourth-seeded Winthrop in the quarterfinals and took down No. 1 seed and tournament host High Point in the semifinals. The Lancers' lone NCAA tournament bid came in 2022 after reclassifying from Division II in 2003. The Bulldogs are looking for a return trip to March Madness after winning the Big South bid last year.

Longwood came back from 15 points down midway through the second half to force overtime and knocked off High Point 80-79. Szymon Zapala scored 17 points off the bench and Walyn Napper finished with 16 points and seven assists. Napper gets 14.7 points per game, Johnathan Massie books 11.4 points a night and Michael Christmas averages 11.3 points and 6.2 rebounds.

UNC Asheville also needed overtime in the semifinals. Drew Pember hit two foul shots to tie it with 16 seconds left and the Bulldogs blitzed Gardner-Webb 12-1 in the extra five minutes for an 83-72 win. Pember put up a triple-double with 30 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists while Toyaz Solomon dropped 17 points. Pember averages 20.8 points and 8.3 boards, Josh Banks is good for 13.0 points per game and Caleb Burgess hands out 5.0 assists a night.

In the all-time series, UNC Asheville holds an 18-6 edge after the teams split two games earlier this season. The Bulldogs got a 65-61 win at home on Jan. 13 before the Lancers picked up an 80-75 homecourt victory on Feb. 21.
