The Summit League Tournament championship will take place today at the Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, in a battle between the No. 7-seeded Denver and the No. 1-seeded South Dakota State with an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament on the line. The Pioneers have beaten the odds making it this far in the tournament as the No. 7 seed. They finished 17-16 overall this season and 6-10 against conference teams. They opened tournament play with a quarterfinal win by just one point over the No. 3-seeded Kansas City. Tommy Bruner led the team with 16 points and four assists in the win. Advancing to the semifinals, they took on and defeated the No. 6 seed, Omaha, by three points. Once again, Bruner led the team with 23 points to move his team to the championship game.

The Jackrabbits finished their season 21-12 overall and led the conference with a 12-4 record against Summit League schools finishing with a two-game lead as the No. 1 seed. They took on Oral Roberts in the quarterfinals winning 79-63 on the back of 18 points from Luke Appel.
They then beat St Thomas (MN) in the semifinals by 10 points with a team-high 13 points from Charlie Easley to advance to the championship game.
