The two sides met at TQL Stadium last Thursday in the first leg of the matchup, with the Liga MX side taking a narrow 1-0 finish heading into the second leg at home. It was none other than former Cincinnati striker Brandon Vazquez who scored the game-winner in the 24th minute of the match. Rodrigo Aguirre also received a red card in the 70th minute, leaving the Uruguayan forward unavailable to face Cincinnati in the second leg on Thursday.

Cincinnati followed up the loss against Monterrey with a scoreless draw against D.C. United on Sunday at TQL Stadium. The team has now drawn twice with no goals in its three matches in the MLS regular season campaign.
The other match for Cincinnati this season was a 2-1 finish over the Chicago Fire on March 2, where Aaron Boupendza and Miles Robinson found the back of the net.
Meanwhile, Monterrey is coming off of a 2-1 victory over Mazatlán FC on Sunday at BBVA Stadium. The goals to secure all three points were scored by Gerardo Arteaga and Germán Berterame.
