The Pac-12 Tournament Championship in women’s college basketball comes down to veteran led, second-ranked Stanford (28-4) and upstart, fifth-ranked USC (25-5) on Sunday. This season those teams have defined the conference with senior Cameron Brink putting together a National Player of the Year resume while freshman JuJu Watkins has played as well or better than any first year player in the history of women’s college basketball. The winner of this game likely has an inside track at a one seed in the NCAA Tournament, which will give them home games and a much clearer path to the Final Four this season.

In the first game between the teams the Trojans upset the then-fourth ranked Cardinal 67-58, led by a strong performance in the third period. That game was tied at the half, then the Trojans came out of the half with a 21-11 third period to steal the win.
Watkins went off for a career-high and a freshman record of 51 points in the win. She filled up the stat sheet with 11 rebounds, four steals and two assists in the win, going 8-for-15 from three. Watkins exploded in the win after her worst performance of the season against Washington. Since that 8-27 shooting game against the Huskies, she has averaged 30.2 points per game.
For the Cardinal since that loss to the Trojans they are 9-1 between the regular season and conference tournament. Brink, Kiki Iriafen and Hannah Jump have made the Cardinal as formidable as any team in the country heading into today’s Pac-12 Tournament Championship Game.
